    coil pack connectors?

i went for a jaunt on the ole capo yesterday and on my way home encountered a missfire and an EFI warning. after 10 years of ownership i am no stranger to the bike and have had very few problems that were not simple to fix.

during the first weks of owership of my capo i had problems with misfires but with no EFI light.

long story short the actual problem was loose connections to the coils. to rectrify this i opened the harness plugs to the coils and bent the pins tigher to make better contact and this solved the problem.

i have since then replaced all the JCI coils with Peugeot 407 coils as when one of a pair failed i replaced both.

for many years i have not had a coil problem, all sorts of other problems but not coils.

so ahead of our next rally i would like to make a decent job of repairing the problem. i had a fault code 33 yesterday after an EFI light but moving the coil from one position to another at the roadside and riding for an hour failed to clear the fault or change it to another code should have changed to 35. although for a short period of riding after changing it the engine ran smoothly.

interestingly riding gently there were no missfires but on open throttle for example overtaking the missfires would be worse.

i guess the cylinder only needs one spark on moderate throttle?

anyway i would like to change the harness connectors because i dont think i willl be able to open them again to doctor them.

i will also change the HT leads (Fiat brava) no problem there, and check the plugs are ok.

what i am having a problem with is locating the harnes plugs. seems like if i had a toyota, nissan, VAG or ford or mazda these can be bought easilly but i find nothing for a peugeot.

the ford/mazda look close but not identical and there are listed 'universal' but i dont understand how that can be possible.

one thing i know is that the Renault scenic coils look similar but the plugs do not fit (i used to have a petrol scenic and the coils seem so also be a consumable on these cars)

so in summary, any one know a source of the connectors?

I've not had to do my coilpacks yet, but when the time comes, I'm seriously considering the Ducati twin spark coil pack as used on the second generation Diavel and multistradas etc. Very neat compact unit as also used on Can Am Spyders I believe. Saw them on ebay for not a huge amount. Just need to check some tech specs.

Nito, pay attention that ECU has 4 independent outputs, one for each channe. Check the Ducati coil pack has a pin for each coil (so at minimum 2 pin more 1 for the common supply) and not only 2 pins (one coil connected as transformer and not as auto-transfomer).
However I think that is very difficult that this coil has the same electrical characteristics of the original Sagem. It can run anyway, but you risk to have a bad spark energy.

Thanks for that MCR, I believe the twin spark coil for Ducati is just a 2 pin per coil pack input which feeds two HT lead output per cylinder, sounds like a no go then.
