Makin sxv 5th gear even taller?

Can it be done? I have an rxv gearbox spare here, can I mix match gears or can they only be moved as pairs? Eg. The sxv 5th gear is 21/21 can I use a 19 toothed gear from the rxv to make it a 21/19 combo or will the teeth not reach? Ive no experience with gearboxes. Need to keep my 1st-4th gear power but need more top speed in 5th.

Most MUST be done in pairs unless you are lucky enough to find gears from a different model that just happen to be the right size. If you are planning to use XV gears, you will need the pair.

Nope. I would think the chances of finding one would be very low. You would probably have better luck getting somebody to make the set in whatever your desired ratio happens to be. There seems to be many sources out there and if you can provide them with a set to get measurements from for reference (shaft center spacing, etc.), it should cut down the cost.

Maybe try contacting Allen Noland; he has done all sorts of custom projects with manufactured prototypes. He might be able to provide some actual experienced input.

I have few companies in Poland which produces a nice gears. To estimate price I would have to know how many people would be interested in such product.

I think the best 5th gear would be 15/23 which on stock gearing 16/46 and 180 rear tire would give 100km/h @ ~4000 RPM (compared to 100@7100RPM)

There would be a nice "space" for shortening sprockets as on stock ones top speed (unreachable of course) shows 268@11500 RPM

    Let me know guys

15/23 is a 0.652:1 gear ratio...you’re going to need a couple more gears between 4th and 5th to close up a gap that big.

Is this still a concern even if 5th is only being used as an overdrive/ highway cruising gear?

It’s going to feel like you’re shifting from 1st or 2nd to 5th....would drive me crazy with a spread that wide.

indeed and how would you want to accelerate past someone on the highway at 120kmh
I would try to match that 4000rpm at 100kmh with changing sprockets first ( if possible) to feel how the bike and engine react to it and how drive able it is.
    But I like the idea
My bike is my gym, my wheelchair and my church all in one. I'd like to ride my bike all day long but I've got this thing called a job that keeps getting in the way.

well. maybe I am different, but generally I don't exceed 120km/h. Tracks we have are short, and maximum gear used is 3-4th. On a normal road for me riding above 120km/h is just a pain. Beside that, if I need to pass someone, 4th gear is up to 160km/h...

    For my usage which is:
    - normal road use but not over 120km/h
    - short track rides

this long 5th gear would be a great solution for me.

changing sprockets affects all gears, than what , I would have to use 2nd gear on all track... for those who wants to have their bikes crispy and sharp, bigger sprocket on front and smaller on rear is not an option...

about price. stock 2nd gear set for RXV is:

    AP9150262 - $40-51
    AP9150265 - $30-39

I will check if simillar price can be set.

Yea I was thinking more 19/21 myself as I still need 5th gear to be pulling just need more top speedbut keeping the power of the first 4 gears.
