    2016 clip on's on 2017+?

Hey guys. Long story short I managed to bend my left side clip on. I have a set of 2016 ones in my garage, however I managed to find a post where Amauri compares some of them and its evident that the 2017 has more space by the base to accommodate the bulkier switch gear.

    Soooo:
1] Will the switchgear fit on the 2016? Also, they seem similar angle but should I swap both sides if I do it?
2]Noob question but are the holes on the clip ons for alignment of the switchgear? Meaning I would have to drill?
3] Or is it just worth it to sell the 2016 ones and buy a left side 17?

    What would you do?

2016 & 17 bars have less down angle, looks like 7º
2017 bars are not only different color, but also machined with extra clearance for the new switch gear.

Looking down from the top, it looks like the newer bars are also offset 5mm further forward.

17 switch gear will not fit 16 and older bars, the alignment holes are also different

Short and sweet, right down to the point. Thank you Amauri. On another note, would you recommend just buying the OEM one or to grab a set of aftermakets? Looking at it from a cost point of view

aftermarket will have clearance issues, some more than others, but none fit as well as OEM

    Hi,
hopefully I can join this thread rather than start a new one about clip-ons
    Has anyone fitted aftermarket clip-ons to a 2017/18 ?

I have a 2017 RF model, I wanted to fit some Gilles GP-light clip-ons as I have them on my R1 and like the angle & posture
So I bought a set a little while ago but not had a chance to fit them until today whereupon I find the throttle twist grip (gas control?) is sealed ? it is assembled with tamper proof screws & there is a factory seal over the assembly.

There seems to be 2 screws - 1 either side - as per a normal clamp plus 1 more screw which may be a 'locator' screw ?? all of which are tamper proof

So for starters is this unit sealed as any disassembly will - or potentially could - damage / ruin it ?
Providing it is ok to disassemble Is there a specific screwdriver bit that will undo these screws or would I have to drill them out ? I do have some specific reverse thread 'bolt remover' bits which may be small enough
Or is it I only have to remove the 1 'locator' screw - in that case which one is it ?

rather than damage it I have just re-assembled it back to stock :-(
thanks very much for any help / input !

basically having a re-think (Morgan spiced induced)
if the throttle grip comes as 1 complete unit it must come off as 1 unit ? so how does it come off ???

    :-)

I think hidden screws up a hole, tamper proof are there to stop you opening the wrong part

hmm, i looked all over the b@£hard thing !
could only see the 3 anti-tamper screws ?? where are the others?

I decided not to use a hammer, but ask here instead ... better to ask a stupid question than waste £200 or so on a new one !

Do not attempt to disassemble the throttle, it is sealed and not meant for disassembly.

It does not clamp to the bar with two screws the way previous throttles did.
There is a single T20 screw that tightens an internal clamp/band, just loosen that screw and slide it off.

AHH, thank you ! thank you very much guys.

I was sure that screw was an anti-tamper screw as well, I thought I tried that one with a screwdriver but it was anti-tamper .... maybe I lost the plot there

p!55ed now I put it all back together !

    cheers

Mine is actually a small Torx drive screw

Oops! Just saw the Amauri posted it was a Torx, I took mine off as the throttle tube was quite sticky on the bars, nothing a smear of grease wouldn't fix though
