EFI light, won't start. Atlantic 500

I have a 2003 Aprilia Atlantic 500 that won't start. It's been sitting in the garage for the past 5 or 6 years. I would charge the battery and run it once a year just to fire it up. This year I put the battery in and it will not start. When I go to start it via the electric start, it will not crank. Seems to be an electrical issue to me. The EFI light does not come on when the key is turned to start. Could be the problem? Need help on troubleshooting. Thanks.

Sounds like a safety interlock. Pull on the left brake handle when trying to start. Sidestand up.

The side stand is up and the scooter is on the center stand. Brake lever(s) are pulled when trying to start. It will not crank.

The EFI light is not coming on when key is turned. I don't know how to go about fixing the issue.

My first check would be the sidestand switch, just to eliminate the easy stuff.

The side stand switch light comes and goes on the dash when it is put down and put back up. I don't think that is the problem.

Have you checked all of the fuses? Could also be anti-theft issue.

I have checked all the fuses and they are good. I'm not sure about the anti theft issue. I am trying to locate the fuel injection relay to test it. Any ideas on the location?

Does your brake light come on when you pull the brake levers with the ignition switch in the run position?

It they do not illuminate, I would suggest the side stand switch has gone out.

The brake lights do not come on when I pull the brake levers. How do I go about testing the side stand swich to see if it has gone bad?

Ehm... I am unsure about all the bikes in the world, but my Big Beo does not have any connection of sidestand and brake light. Brake lights work independently from side stand, once the ignition is on.

Try this, unless you already have.

Mater, thanks for the tip but I have already checked all the fuses.

From what I read in the workshop manual there is a injection relay and a secondary injection relay. Can somebody please direct me to where they are on the scooter. I am having a hard time finding them and a hard time deciphering the wiring diagram.

I wouldn't think it's the injector relay if it's not trying to crank at all. It would make more sense that it would crank, but not catch due to lack of fuel in the cylinder. I don't think the injector relays have anything to do with the starter.
