    Fuel tank heat shield

Iíve noticed on a few pictures Iíve seen of Futura fuel tanks that they have some kind of heat protection stuck to the underside of the tank. My bike hasnít and I canít remember there being anything on my last Futura either. Is this a standard fit on the Futura? My tank has been resprayed so not sure if itís ever had this protection on or not. Iíve seen some heat protectors for the bike advertised online but wasnt sure if this was standard or aftermarket. Any advice is appreciated.

Mine has both a heat shielding over top of the rear cylinder as well as some foam padding that sits over top of the air box (likely for sound deadening) They are factory parts - see here https://www.af1racing.com/store/Scri...idCategory=477

Might be able to live w/o the heat shielding, though it might help keep the gasoline from getting warmer than it would w/o.

The foam ends up coming apart. I cleaned mine up and installed shielding under the tank.

A while back I received a NOS blue Futura tank from Micah and crew. The underside foam? You can guess. Looked pristine, but this stuff degrades over time, it's 16 years old now. I really like the metallized heat shielding Porsche used years ago in the 911.

Has anyone found a modern equivalent?

I've used this stuff under the tank of my RSVR and inside the fairings. It's heavy (adds a fair amount of weight) but it does work similar to the Porsche stuff.
