1973 DUCATI Sport New Frame Project

Bought a 1973 Ducati sport that had been "period" bastardized back in the early 90's for $1500. Cafe'd it and rode it on the streets of Chicago for a bit. Went on to race it with AHRMA for a few seasons and realized how expensive it was. Started racing Japanese two strokes and the bike sat for a while. I eventually sent the motor to Vee-Two for a rebuild and put it back together and it sat for a while again. Recently decided to have a new frame built for it incorporating better geometry and using Yamaha 2016 R6 front end and wheels. Bike will eventually have a TZ style aluminum tank and seat section. Figured I'd start posting pics of the projects and see what folks have to say. The "Ducatisti" will prolly be upset with me, but oh well. Hopefully you will enjoy the transformation as much as I hope I will. This is the earliest pic of the new frame. I will post more as I get them. I also have some Jerry Branch (California Hot Rod) ported springer heads for sale as I will never use them again, back to stock basics. Enjoy.Click image for larger version.

Smooth as silk. "Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or fascist dictaatorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. H. Goring

Sounds awesome. I am not a Ducati purist, though. My favorite Ducati is a 750 motor in a Harris Sound of Singles chassis (aluminum twin spar chassis).

So what geometry does it get? The ducati's that time were long with a lazy fork angle. While thinking at it, reminds me of a project bike a friend build.

I have a meeting with the folks building the frame soon so will know more, but obviously tightening up the wheelbase, shaving weight, ect. Should have another update in 2-3 weeks.
