SXV 550 Full Hinson Clutch Swap

So I finally have all the pieces to my Hinson set up. The main hub, clutch basket, and clutch itself. All billet, all super pretty. Iíll probably be tackling this tomorrow is there anything else I should do while Iím in there. The engine was recently rebuilt by Allen but I donít know how extensive he got with it so I bought a few O-rings and oil seals I saw in the parts diagram that I may come in contact with.

Run in to my first potential issue. The clutch kit they sent me comes with new springs. However they are a little bit longer than the OEM ones. Is this normal? I assumed because it’s probably a little higher clamping force they’d be either a little longer or a little thicker but I wasn’t sure. Longer Hinson spring on bottom, OEM on top. And the OEM is not collapsed, it’s within the 45.1mm spec for uncompressed length.

So my question is are the new springs okay or did they send me the wrong ones?

Tonight I finished getting everything out. Realized I didn't order some bearings I was wanting to replace while I was in there so the project is on hold till I get them but this what I did so far.

Stock clutch with the cover off. I also have some nice new titanium bolts from Pro Bolt to go back on this as I've been replacing most every piece of hardware with titanium as I work on the bike and I may powdercoat it I'm not sure if I wanna wait for that though. All 6 spring bolts came out easy and all of my springs felt tight. I measured them all and they were all in factory spec for uncompressed length which is 45.1mm.

Someone had been in here before either to replace the clutch or for something but the safety washer didn't have any of the tabs bent over the nut and one of them you can tell had been bent back at some point. Borrowed my friends aprilia clutch holder tool and it came off super easy. No visible wear to the stock clutch basket, pressure plate or main hub at 7,500 miles. The 2 roller bearings and the little bushing that ride on the splined shaft are 3 of the things I was wanting to replace so I'm waiting on those as well as the I guess what you'd call the throwout bearing at the end of the plunger shaft that runs through this whole assembly.

The Hinson clutch basket requires the use of the Aprilia main gear and has you drill out the rivets on the stock clutch to get it. This was really easy I just center punched each one and drilled them with my run of the mill cordless drill. You go far enough down till the head actually pops off. It took me maybe 5 minutes to drill them all out and pop the backing plate off. The instructions are very clear and really don't need to anymore explaining. The new clutch basket comes with torx screw and new rubber dampers for mounting the main gear to it. They tell you to liberally use red loctite on the screws and then peen them from the other side once they're torqued down. You can see the clear difference in quality between the factory cast basket and the billet Hinson.

Must be the inner hub/slipper portion of the clutch.

I have a Suter clutch (just the inner hub/slipper) for my gixxer trackbike. I think it's the same as the Hinson inner(?) It is so nice to bang off downshifts and be able to not worry about the back end getting too squirrely.

@ Jack - three boxes are most likely 1. Basket, 2. Drum and 3. Pack and springs.

Yeah it’s the clutch basket, the inner hub and pressure plate, and then the clutch pack itself.

Only ones I know are Hinson and apparently Rekluse makes ones but I don’t know if it’s for their auto clutch only or what.
