Problem With Speedo and Indicators - Aprilia SX50 2017

    Hi,

This is my first ever post and I need some advise on my sons SX50 2017 Model.

The speedo is very erratic and move when you rev the bike, about the same time the right hand indicator started to flash intermittently, instead of the usual flash. Sometimes it works fine when stationary, but whilst riding it doesn't seem to flash at all.

I have read about the same issues with the speedo and a lot of people say to replace the battery.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    John

buy a original spark plug with a resistor and throw out the one you are running

when indicators flash incorrectly it is normmally one of the following
    bulb blown
LED indicators retrofitted without changing flasher relay to LED compatible flasher
if electronic relay fitted and indicators malfunction at higher revs its noise on the DC cables and you need to fit a filter/screened spark plug cap
poor wiring/connectors check clean and wd40 all connections including bulb holders if fitted

generally when things are going strange with your general electrics
    check battery voltage
    check all connectors including earths
    check for poor wiring
    clean and wd40 all connections

It looks like your battery is at a low charge. If you are not having this issue with the engine revved up to 8K+ RPM, then put the battery on a charger, or replace it with a new battery.

I bought a new original spark plug with resistor and replaced it, but then realised the old one was exactly the same, so the problem still exists. I have since cleaned the rear wires to the indicator and it seems to have worked.

When I touched the rear indicator wires under the mudguard it made it worse so I took it apart and cleaned all connections with contact cleaner. The indicators seem to be working fine again now.

The indicators are all original and have worked fine since I’ve owned the bike, 18 months ago.

However, the Speedo issue is still there and I will buy a new battery next week after payday and hope that solves the problems.

    thanks John

do you have a voltmeter to check battery voltage?
have you tried charging the battery?

I haven't got a voltmeter, but I did try to charge the battery and when I connected it, a green light came on the charger and said it was fully charged already. It is a cheap battery charger and may not be that accurate. I have googled the Aprilia SX50 speedo issue and lots of you tube videos advise to change the battery. And a new battery is only 20 so it's a no brainer really to try a new one.

Multimeters are very inexpensive these days. They are invaluable for sorting these kinds of issues with the motos. I highly recommend that you pick one up. It doesn't have to be a top notch professional model.

New battery arrived and fitted, exactly the same make Yuassa and unfortunately the problem still exists. The speedo still fluctuates whilst stationary whilst revving it and putting indicators on. It could be something to do with the speed sensor on the rear wheel.
