Would my 21 carb be a bit on the small side for an 80cc ? Bike came with 24mm Mikuni but it was a pig to tune

It depends on the whole setup. Still, it's a two ring 80cc aluminum kit. I would think that this 21mm carburetor is more suited to your exhaust. That's enough. Don't forget that you haven't replaced the crankshaft. If it was a single-ring Airsal Racing 80 kit with a Yasuni R3 exhaust, with a racing crankshaft, of course, a 24mm carburetor would be more appropriate.

Well I didn’t expect this. Both rings are at 0.18mm.

So theres nothing wrong with the top end. And it is an 80cc , d.50mm piston.

Yes, the top end is usable. His condition is more than excellent.

So I don’t understand why I have such poor performance. don’t know if the cylinder doesn’t like my exhaust.

Ill probably fit the TP 70 kit for a change

Lots of things can cause poor performance. Bad gas for instance. But also timing, carb/exhaust mismatch, bad plug, etc.

It could also be your expectations. What do you mean when you say bad performance? Can't keep up with an R6, or maybe someone on a Puch Maxi is kicking your ass? I do know some folks that have tuned the Maxi to be very fast, so performance can be quite relative.

It won’t do more than 80kmh on the flat , I see videos of 50s doing more than that. When I first got it it had a hebo race exhaust and 24mm Mikuni and it pulled really hard in the powerband, like you really had to hang on but I could never get it tuned so that it was useable around town when you weren’t flat out.

But its been getting gradually slower on my current setup... I’ll put the TP kit on and see how that feels. Should be more suited to my carb and exhaust anyway.

That could be gearing. Does it get there quickly?

I put shorter gearing on it than previous owner had, it has 13/47. Gets to 80kmh quite quickly then doesn’t pull 5th or 6th gear unless going downhill.
I don’t think the exhaust and carb suit the airsal 80. I will try out my 70 TP , I think it will be a better match.
