Bit of help and advice needed - bike misfiring after storage

    Evening all,

Been abroad for a few years and recently got my bike out of storage. Unfortunately did not prep it for storage so it had the fuel left in tank from when I parked it up.

Put new battery and Amauri cable mod on and started her with fresh fuel in but did not drain tank. Ever since she started she has started grumpy with a misfire in idle. Took her out and was okay while accelerating. But could feel misfire and would occasionally stall with a lot of popping at 4K when off throttle. Filled her up with Shell finest V Power. Didnít start sometimes but cured that by stripping starter switch.

Was hoping just bad fuel so got some injector cleaner and with that started and sounded better on idle. Felt better and would lift the wheel. On return started to act worse and would hardly idle.

Whipped plugs out and they appeared fine and checked they produced a spark with my Mx bike.

Prior to storage the bike ran as good as normal. To my shame only has 4200 miles on it and she is an 09 RSV4 Factory.

    So, was wondering:
Is it likely to be a gummed up injector and using it might clear it?
I have enough cleaner for another tank full but how many tanks before suspecting itís something more?
Might take off the cable as itís the only change since going into storage but donít think thatís it?

Looking at checking valve clearances but donít understand how that can happen as surely if valves would have done this prior to storage?

Was wondering if anyone has something to try before I take it totally to pieces for valve clearances.

    Thank you in advance.

Likely you’ll have to remove the fuel injectors and send them out to a specialist for cleaning.

+ 1 .. most likely a fuel related issue. Might have to address the fuel lines as they could be gummed up.

Sometimes you can find good deals on cleaned/tested used injectors on Ebay etc. Sometimes that can be quicker and easier than sending yours in. I had a friend that had an old triumph that sat for a few years without proper prep and bike wouldn’t start at all. Long story short turned out all 4 injectors had froze up and none of them would spray fuel at all. Got a used set pretty cheap and bike fired right up and ran perfect.

Run a hot mix of Seafoam with your gas, Chevron has the best additive package,(techron). Run at least one, or even two tanks through, and see what happens.

Evening all, just a quick update. Did another strip down checking all electrical connections and everything seemed cool. Bought new spark plugs (CR9EB) and put her back together. Decided to leave the injectors in and pinned all hope on plugs fixing it.

As soon as i started her it sounded like the old girl and a quick rip up the road and she is back to normal.

So even though the plugs produced a spark on my mx bike clearly not strong enough, just thought I’d update the thread so everyone in future sees what fixed it.
