Fallen at the first hurdle. Neither myself, my Dad or my other go-to for tools has a spanner big enough for the oil sensor, so I need to go and get one.

The more I think about it, the less confident I'm feeling about having a go, so I think I'll just call the dealer.

Even though I didn't have the correct size spanner/socket for the oil sensor, I took the fairings off anyway and gave it a clean and got the bugs out of the radiator and oil cooler. I didn't try and fit the radiator guard, as I was running out of time, but I've got a better idea of what I need to do for when I attempt this now. Turns out there's an extra step on the aPRC bikes that requires you to undo something at the top of the radiator.

I contacted the dealer today and the workshop called me back and are going to collect the bike Monday morning free of charge and then do their own diagnosis. Hopefully it is just something simple, like the oil sensor or its cable, and I'll be back on the road as soon as possible. Also, the easier it is to fix, the less the labour cost will be and the work and parts they supply will be covered.

Thanks for all the help on this forum though! These places are invaluable, particularly for things that are a bit more specialist like our Aprilias.

Dealer collected the bike this morning, so now hoping it's not going to cost a fortune to fix.

Got the call today to say my bike was ready to collect.

The service manual was spot on, there was a fault with the oil pressure sensor cable, so that has been replaced with a new one. Everything else checked out fine.

I asked what the cost was and they said not to worry about it, as I haven't had the bike long. No warranty and not their fault. What great service.
