1998 Aprilia pegaso 650 motor sounds

    Hi,

I've noticed a sharp sound from the right side (prob bottom) of the motor, to the ears its only from the bottom-right side of the motor, in the video it sounds similar from everywhere.
What could it be ? Sprag clutch of the starter ? Had the cover opened before noticing the sounds (I think), everything seemed fine.

Unfortunately you cannot inspect the sparg clutch like this

You have to remove it in order to see in witch condition is

Changed sprag clutch (the old one was naaasty, just in time and damn flywheel was glued to the crank...), checked timing chain, cleaned tensioner, changed oil, everything seems just fine...
Didn't check valve clearance, kinda forgot... It would take another 30 min to do that now... maybe I should...
That sound is still there does it sound bad to you ? any ideas ?

Thinking I am too lazy to take apart the whole motor, will wait till it will self-explode and then we will investigate...

From what I can hear from the video, there doesn't seem to be any weird or dangerous sound in there. I wouldn't worry about it.

Moto Guru says it might be crank which can go any-time It might make sense, cause what else could sound like this, if crank is moving a bit and transfering the sound to flywheel

If you have a roller bearing engine, this is probably normal crank noise. If you have the plain bearing engine (and I think you have, but check on your registration documents for the engine code), the noise is possibly from the balance shaft bearings, or maybe the clutch hub bearings, although I'd expect more noise in this latter case and obviously louder on the clutch side of the engine.

Unless the noise gets significantly worse when accelerating the engine hard, I suggest you just ride the thing. If there's something amiss it will become progressively worse up until the cause of the noise becomes obvious. At that point, strip the engine and fix the problem. Before then, just ride.

    Cheers... Paul
