Been a long time coming but finally caught one. Such a beautiful beast.

Now I took it for a spin before buying and didnít notice anything off. Loaded it up and brought her home.
Today I finally had time to put on street lights and new battery. Started it up and noticed an odd clanking sound from motor. Almost like a loose timing chain or something.

Before I run it any more, I wanted wanted some input on what this may be. Iíll be doing an complete fluid change this weekend.

Here is a video of the sound. It is noticeable after I rev it around 20 seconds in.

First, check that the engine is idling at 2000 RPM, because it sounds like it's idling a little low. If you're referring to the clacking sound near the end, that sounds like the decompressor levers clacking back and forth which they tend to do below 1900 or so.

That is you decompression levers rattling. Turn the idle up. The bike prefers to idle above 1800rpm.

Time to order that XV tuner

Unless there happens to be someone in San Diego who can help a brother out.

Or pull your clutch in and see if the noise changes...

Can have very noisy clutches at idle...

Yes, anyone who owns an VX NEEDS xvtuner, but idle adjustment is done with the knob on the left side of the airbox.
