    Peculiar clutch behavior

    Hi

I've been looking at buying an Aprilia RSV Mille R Factory from 2006.

The guy who is selling told me that the slipper clutch would sometimes, when the bike is ridden hard, fail to disengage if you didn't pump it 2 or 3 times. To me that sounds like something is broken. Any ideas what? I didn't experience it myself during my test ride.

Is it something minor, like air in the system or could it be something more serious so I should just walk away from this bike and find another one?

Help a hopefully future Aprilia rider :-)

    Best regards,
    Jacob

Sounds like the fluid needs to be flushed and bled properly- especially if you feel little resistance when pressing the lever closed, and if the fluid is not a clear honey amber

There was the resistance I would expect, but the fluid was old and dark. I didn’t experience the problem myself. Would it just be overheating of the clutch fluid that is causing it?

Sounds surmountable. The clutch system is not rocket science. Worst case is probably replacing the OEM slave with an aftermarket item and flushing the juice.

Kudos to the seller for disclosing the situation.

Check for evidence of leakage around the master cylinder too.

Thank you guys. I’ll hope for the best and make an offer on the bike.

I’m almost certain that at least by winter a large service is due. It did have an oil and filter change in the spring and is being sold due to lack of time for riding. Thank you for your input. If we agree on a price I’ll probably be back with more questions;-)

We managed to agree on a reasonable price factoring in the custom Red Bull paint job (which I’m not a big fan of) and the potential lack of service. I’ll pick up my new bike on Sunday. Thank you for the input.
