    Blew 30 Amp Fuse

Was on my way home from work the other day when the bike shut off on me. Dash dead, no start. Fortunately I was about half a mile from my house and pushed it home.

I just starting looking over the bike and one of the 30 amp fuses is blown. I haven't had a chance to go pick up some new fuses but I must have a short some place?

I've done a little poking around on the forum and so far the only suspect is the speed sensor wiring that runs along the swingarm. It appears fine.

Any other suggestions where I might have a problem? I figured I'd lift the tank and start poking around but if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears.

Stick another fuse in and, with the seat off, turn it on. Listen for all the sounds (fuel pump, IAC valve cycling and then try to start it. If there is a short you should hear a snap and smell the ozone and possibly trace it down.
I'm going to start carrying spare 30 amp fuses now .....

I finally was able to play with the bike. Fuse replaced. Bike fires up and idles fine. Charging system checks out, stator is fine. Bike came up to temp and the instant the fans were supposed to kick on the fuse blew. I'm having trouble finding the connectors for the fans but once I find them, I figured I'd unplug both, replace the fuse and try again. It's very possible that one of the fans is bad and is causing the fuse to blow. I think? I hope.

If you lift the tank the fan connectors at either side of the radiator. Check them for corrosion or rubbed/broken wires.

No dice on gaining access just by lifting the tank. Looks like I either remove the airbox or try to lower/lean the radiator forward so I can get to the fans and connectors.

Got the airbox off and disconnected the fans. Fuse replaced and bike reached 205 degrees before I shut it off. Ran leads to each of the fans, the left hand fan is totally dead.

Replacement fan on order from AF1.

It looks like there isn't enough flex in the hoses to shift the radiator to R&R the fan so I'll be draining and replacing coolant too (damn).

If you remove the lower radiator bolts the radiator pivots forward, not sure if that will give you enough room to get the fan out?

Thanks jess, I was able to pivot the radiator forward just enough to pull the dead fan out and replace it. Bike is back up and running. The bad fan was seized up.
