Scarabeo Ditech 50 - Poor Performance at Higher Speeds

History: 2005 Scarabeo Ditech was running perfectly last year. Went to start it after a long ride the previous day and it started, ran rough for a couple seconds then died. After troubleshooting the issue was determined to be low compression. This spring I bought and installed a Malossi 70cc BBK. Compression went from 60 to 90 psi. Performed a TPS reset. The scoot starts and runs well at low speeds. Above 30 the scoot hesitates and sounds weird, like its being starved. It doesn’t lose power it just won’t continue to increase speed. I checked air pressure while running, it fluctuates between 65 and 70 psi. Still need to gauge fuel pressure while underway.

Known “issue” leaky air compressor: performed a leak test with gas and shop air pressurizing the outlet. It leaks, but it doesn't seem too bad. I cleaned the seal between the orifice and the body but the leak remains…

Does anyone have a guess as to what the problem is? I cleaned the injectors in an ultrasonic bath last year, but should I remove the reinspect? Could the leaky air compressor be the culprit? Thoughts???

Noname - I read and attempted to perform CPR on air compressor however it didn't appear to help. I went on a long ride today with the goal of pinpointing the issue. I'd interested in feedback based on the below observations:

    • There are no ECU error codes
    • After first starting scooter and while idling it hiccups periodically (mid 60’s psi air, 100psi fuel)
    • The scoot runs very smoothly in the lower/mid rpm range when gently throttling (75psi air, 110psi fuel)
    • When hard throttling the scoot while accelerate well for a short period of time before it begins to experience serious backfiring and frequent SLOP (as low as 62psi air, 100psi fuel)
    • When full throttle after gently accelerating scoot maxes at 40mph and experience less intense backfiring/SLOP but can’t hit old max of 45mph (65psi air, 105psi fuel)
    • When at idle after riding air pressure will build and reach around 73psi

If replacing the air compressor is the fix, what are your thoughts on the hs tuning air compressor?

    Thanks so much

Almost forgot, but I was thinking of replacing the sparkplug even thoughts it seems fine (a little sooty but fully operational). Figured why not considering the scoot is about to be back on the road, fingers crossed. Mind confirming that NGK (6914) ZMR7AP Laser Platinum Spark Plug gapped to .040” is the best option for the scoot?

lenko - I took the scoot for a ride with gauges monitoring air and fuel pressure. Results were provided above. I'm not familiar enough with the system to know what pressures I should see. Ideally, I'm looking for feedback as to if the measurements look good/bad. I also don't fully grasp the relationship between fuel and air pressure and how to discriminate which piece of hardware might be faulty when pressure is outside of the expected.

Was out for another ride and scoot broke down. Lost all fuel pressure. The fuel pump is getting power and spins but no pressure. The pump was bought new last year and I replaced plastic connecting rod with aluminum rod... I'll open up sometime tomorrow to diagnose, but getting ready to give up on the scoot all together...

if u want to replace aircompressor then buy from hs tuning .those guys like hgt real ditech guru.most failure parts are fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.
ecu reset do as follow :
    1. ignition off, throttle full open
    2. ignition on,throttle close

I may be late to the party, but there's also a check ball in the outlet fitting on the fuel pump. If it gets stuck, it will have a real hard time building and holding pressure while it runs(100psi seems kind of low, I'm running 118 psi at idle and stock on the SR is 115 psi I believe. Also, I hope you put fresh gas in it?

Yes, this ball dictates the work of the pump ... they can be deformed and rusted...
