    98 EV11 not firing.

    Hi,

After my Dad passed from his cancer battle in 2017, I inherited his 1998 Guzzi EV11. It has been running very well as of late - took it to Guzzi Tech in spring of 2018 and had the fuel injectors cleaned, PCIII installed, new forks, rear shocks, steering damper all fluids changed. I have been using it mainly for commuting purposes shared with my 2015 Caponord TP and enjoy riding it plus the sentimental value. Leaving from work today the bike would not fire. Starter works fine, but I do not hear the EFI initializing. Thankfully I have underground parking at work so I left it there and my wife made the 8 mile trip from home to pick me up. I suspect that it might be a relay or fuse? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Check fuses first. If the pump isn't priming when the ignition is turned on its most likely to be a fuse. If it isn't a fuse next thing I'd point the bone at is the phase sensor. Guzzi's price is absurd, aftermarket ones are cheap as chips. Fling a new one in it, (Making sure the depth is correct.) and see if it fixes it.

    Hi Pete,

Thanks for your help. I checked all the fuses and they were fine. Put in new relays (I do have a source for the reasonably priced ones) and that did not do the trick. I looked in the manual to see what a phase sensor is and could not find it. Is it the timing and rev sensor - GU29721660? At any rate, my local Guzzi dealer who has an expert mechanic there is only 3.5 miles from my work, so I had them pick it up last Saturday to work on it. Should know more this week.

By the way, I see that some Guzzi's have a roller? problem. Can you point me to a page on this? Do the 2008 1200 sport's have this problem? I am looking at a used one.

    Thanks again,

The flat tappet issue only affects the 2008-2012 1200-8 valve motors. You didn't get 8V Sports in the US.
