2009 DD after washing ignition comes on with no key in bike.............

Hey guys in preparation for summer I was changing the oil and giving the DD a bath. While drying the bike off I hear the ignition prime and the dash lights up along with the tail light and front LED above the headlight as it should during the normal starting procedure. The key was NOT in the bike however was in my pocket. For giggles, I pressed the ignition button and the damn thing started with no key and ignition switch in off position. I can only figure I was close enough to the bike with the chipped key it registered the signal....... however how the hell did it turn everything on..... it has been two hours since I washed it and also took air compressor and blew all water off and out of any electrical areas including ignition I could find. Oh also removed the main fuse to cut power to the system in the meantime. Just went our replaced fuse same issue all cluster comes on the taillight and LED over headlight as well all turn on as before.....? I currently have a fan blowing on the clutch side of the bike as most of the electronics are on that side and removed the main 30amp fuse in the meantime any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm on vacation this week and have 4 days of sun and 70degree days ahead I wanna get out and enjoy!!! That's a weird thing !!
I would concentrate on the key block and the wiring below it, well drying it with the hairdryer.

The starter switch was dodgy on early DDs andShivers (and some Guzzis). I'd disassemble and lube, taking care of the spring loaded ball bearing.
But it should need the ignition on.
Did you use a pressure washer?
Water may have got into theECU connector. These can corrode, so you might want to check that out.

I would have thought that you would have to be within 5 cm of the key antenna to start the bike .my guess is you have found a way to short the bike into starting without the key ,Just water in a connector I suspect ,please stop blaming the early switches it's such an easy cop out and your so wrong.

Very categorical statement, Maddad. I had the sticking starter button issue on my 2010 Shiver as did many others. The switch is upgraded on my 2015.

I usually just get a wet rag and wipe it down. There are way to many horror stories of the same issues as he's trying to figure out from people power washing with mega soap, attachments. It's a short somewhere on the bike from the water.....now you just need to figure out where.

Maybe take your location of your profile until you fix it unless you want a forum member going for a joy ride while you're out and about
