I also found the chip to be unforgiving, especially (as Gabro mentioned) without an EGA. When mine was broken, I used two identical O2 sensors and a multimeter for added verification that the cylinders were close at idle. This is hardly ideal, but got me in the ballpark and the bike ran fantastic. With an idle speed ~1500 and everything dialed in, mine stopped dying when returning to idle. However, when traveling to higher elevations, you still need to use the thumbscrew under the tank, or the handlebar lever, to keep the idle up around 1500.

Anyway, I'm used to the "quirks" of the chip now and just enjoy riding the bike, I like the power delivery much more than my (departed) 2007 Factory. However, if it hadn't come with the FP chip already installed, I would have went straight to Mr. Gabro...

I have an '03 California model and all the fittings are there to sync the TBs and trim pots. I have the shotgun exhaust (for weight reduction over stock, mostly). I've tried about a half dozen chips and honestly, I'd need to open the unit to find out what I settled on since it's been in there so long. But I do know it's an Aprilia factory chip. Tried the Factory Pro chip without and with the fuel pump mod but it was never just right. Even with a couple of different mods done by Ken Zeller the out-of-the-box chip ran like crap, a re-tune of the chip was better but still didn't like it. The Factory Pro performance seems to vary a lot by bike. Never found out why. They need a specific fuel pressure, too, but I don't think that fuel pressure regulator mod kit is available any longer if you don't already have what's needed. Also tried Gabro chip. I like smoother on-off throttle operation then whatever else I can get next and one of the Aprilia chips with a good tune did it. Talk to Dave at Redline Performance Motorsports up in Yorktown, VA. I think he'll do a tune. That little piggy back board is just a decoder for the chip so you can't copy it.
    see ya later,

Your results with the Factory Pro chip seem better than mine, but I highly recommend Gabro's chips.
If I can’t get it smoothed out after ten weeks of dyno Tuning I’m just going to bite the bullet and get a Gabro chip. I’m hoping I can figure it out though.

It's not a big bullet to bite. His prices are actually too low. How much do you intend to spend on the dyno? You could have his chip delivered for well under $100.

The dyno is free for me through my mechanics program. And that doesn’t seem like a bad price at all!

Sorry Gabro.... I’ve just read the research on the link pipe mod and see the issues with pipe dia/position of the mod and effect/limits on a eprom to suit.... clearly being in NZ i’ll Have to find an alternate solution (or just leave as is).
    Apologies for jumping the gun

Don’t leave doing it here’s some feedback I on one of my collectors and an Aprilia forza chip

Hello fellow Aprilians. Just parked my bike and decided to tell you my experience with the very basic performance mods on Gen1 RSV.

By lurking on this group and AF I’ve decided to do a collector mod + Forza eprom with still pending open airbox mod(homemade).

I’ve sourced my chip from Elliott Ed and collector was supplied by Mark Redratbike Sinclair.

Collector arrived today, took me about 20-30mins to swap existing and about 5mins to swap Eproms. And there it was... I’m mind blown how much of a difference that made! I was greeted with a change in the way bike sounds up to 5k rpm. It’s got much more grunt now which I absolutely love. Performance wise it’s become a completely different machine(much much better) and it’s going to take me a few more miles to get used to throttle, as it goes as much as you turn without any usual hesitation(the ones that had these mods done will understand). Long story short - oh my god!

Many thanks to the people mentioned and if anyone reading this has a bone stock Mille - trust me, this is the way to go. Wow!

My FP chip removal and sale was a good day.
    Never could get it right
FP, when still in business sent me a replacement with an 'Oops, some were wrong' message.
It still was not right, but it did provide exciting on the road.
I'm an early user of Gabro Magic.
