    RS 125 authenticity query

Apologies if this is the wrong location, but the board appears to have a section only for USA RS 125s or the Euro archive.

I am looking at purchasing an RS 125 (in UK) but being unfamiliar with the smaller bikes, could anyone advise whether there was a 'Chesterfield' 1999? From what I am able to locate, there was a Rossi Replica and Chesterfilds of 1994 - 96, ref: https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/bikes/Aprilia2.html

I am yet to personally view the bike (apologies for the crap pic) so obviously unable to extract detail from the VIN, but hope to save a trip is there's something suspicious. Can anyone determine if this is a 1999, and, are the orange wheels an original item?

There was, but not with orange wheels.

This site is very detailed and tells you what to look for on the frame, etc.

The key, easy indicator is the frame sticker, as you can see on this one:

If it dont got the sticker, itís just a fairing kit...

I couldnít find one with a gianelli sticker and all the ones I saw also had Mobil or AE or other oil sticker on it.

The year is going to be less important as they shipped them a long long time after they stopped making them in Ď96.

That last site link should tell you everything you need to vet it. Get him to send you a pic of the right side. Should have gold brake carriers and the frame sticker. If not, itís not an Extrema / SP.

    This: http://thers125.blogspot.com/2013/08...a-special.html

    and this: https://www.125ccsportsbikes.com/for...hp?showforum=9

    should round you out.

my impression is no, just a skin kit on a standard bike, but without the RH side, can’t be sure.

Thanks very much for all that info LED. Have printed off some of it and will immerse myself in the 125 forum later on.

On the face of it now, the bike appears a mock-up. Not necessarily a bad thing, but from a collector's and value perspective, certainly a consideration when it comes to price. Cheers!!

here is another great italian site, use a translator.
    https://125stradali.com/aprilia-125-stradali-aprilia/

    http://aprilia2stroke.wixsite.com/home/ripotenziamento

it tells you all the frame numbers and build specs. These are great bikes, they were ridden by 17 year olds, crashed, bashed, and badly repaired (lack of money) so good ones are rare, bad ones go for significant cash !
The DVLA or whatever they call themselves now are absolutely incapable of putting the correct year of manufacture, or even the name is often wrong. It could be an import (used abroad then imported here) , hence the wrong date ! 1999 instead of 1994. DVLA get everything wrong !
Some countries have restrictions (germany has a 50 kmh limit on certain ages, they attack the ignition timing, expansion exhaust and smaller carb 24mm) Switzerland is even worse.

Keep us informed how you get on !

I have the 98 Rossi replica ,could not stand the purple light champagne now duel Intakes arrow exhaust carbon end can and the 34 mm carb .As for the decal ,well lots of people tore em off and polished the frame all good if it's cheap grab it I guess they are getting harder to find .

Thanks for those. Great help along with LED's. I am aware most of these will have worn 'L' plates for quite some time. That is always a risk with older unless, as with yours, you can score one from an old fogey like myself who has nurtured it for all its life! My main interest, I guess, is ascertaining the year of manufacture. We all all know sellers will up the date to make a bike seem newer. All will be revealed on the VIN. As a new kid to the aprilia fold, I am flying a bit blind. Strange, because I could buy a Honda with my eyes closed!

Thanks maddad. Good point about the decal/sticker. Absolutely agree that many will rip off all sorts or decals/transfers, especially those on the swing arms (all bikes - not just aprilias). Sure it's neater, but it truly compromises originality.

Thanks very much for that. I would never have found those in a million years!!

Waiting on a return call from the owner so I can view tomorrow. No word from dgee1111 on this forum about his RS50 listed for sale.

Bloody ebay. Seller texted me and advised he's too busy for me too see the bike. I have no problem buying a bike 'blind' but only after good verbal communication with the seller. This is suspect. Anyone listing items for sale would expect a prospective purchaser to inspect first. No loss - plenty more aprilias in the sea!

He sounds like a dealer ( back street no guarantees !)
    he has 3 bikes advertised.
and makes a big deal of buying a" gianelli pipe very expensive " (they are only £200 some better pipes cost over £600)
and what have they done to the suspension ? the arse of the bike should never be that high ! i recon its got riser plates " looks 'ard man "
it'll handle like shit and be a highside waiting to happen....
fuzzy pictures - only 3 and shakes on the pictures, to lazy to even move his cleaning materials ! he has other jacked up bikes in his garage behind his bikes ! he will scream a bike down the straights, then 50p the corners at 20 mph lol.
