    2in2 versus 2in1in2 confusion.

I run a '01 RSVR 2-in-2, F255 chip with a set of Danmotos (I wadded the original Akras).

The bike runs perfectly, no flat spot, great throttle pick-up, nothing needed adjusting, but I don't like the cans.

I just bought a set of '01 Apr. Racing SP Ti shotgun cans on Ebay. (see pic) thinking this is a straightforward conversion, and I like the look.

I know I need the collector pipe mod, but, I just re-read a dozen threads and now I'm wondering whether I've made a mistake.

Is this going to screw everything up?

The header in your picture is the early 98-2000 version. Though some have modified this version I have seen no hard data that suggests that it is as good as a U.S. 02-03 header with the two added connector pipes. The purpose of the change from the early header to the later type (01-03, U.S. 02-03) was to work in combination with the bigger intake valves and hotter cams of the 01-03, U.S. 02-03 engine to produce more power in the upper rpm range. It is doubtful that you can achieve the same result with a modified early header as you can with the later header.

I assume you are still using a basic 01 U.S. small valve and cam engine. Honestly it will probably work fine. I've run a couple different aprilia dual exhaust kit chips with my basic 01 U.S. spec engine and stock early header with aprilia Ti can And in each case it was definitely better than the 01 Ti chip that came with the aprilia Ti 01 can.

If you can get hold of an 02-03 header to modify I would go for it but try it with what you have, modified or not. Unmodified though you are going to have more of a flat spot than your dual system.

    Thanks appreciate your guidance.

I'm fairly certain its the basic 01 U.S. engine. The bikes in storage, the paperwork elsewhere, but it's definitely '01 registration.

I looked up the RSVR '01 US header for comparison with an RSVR '03. Pics attached, '01 U.S. is just collector, '03 (EU source) includes header pipes.

From what I can see the collector link pipe to the front header is straight in the '03 model, and the '01 has a kink. Is that why you're saying it's doubtful I can achieve the same result by modding the early header?

Guess the best plan is take the old cans and stock collector pipe off and then see what I need to make the new cans fit, and work. Definitely don't want to lose the performance I got off Gabro's chip.

    Cheers!

I've read the '02-'05 Tuono header will work too? Do you know if that's correct?

Thanks Gabro. I think this post of yours is the important one. The later pipe with double crossover does look better but the difference is not that large.
