    [Futura] 2001 Futura Flame Red

It's time for me to part with my Futura as I just don't ride it anymore. My focus has shifted to track and dirt-bike riding, and my commute is now by bus instead of bike.

    2001, Flame Red, 37,000 miles

I bought this from the estate of the former head of Saab North America. The bike had all the 'farkles' you could want, including some stuff that's hard to find now (AF1 h-pipe, tall screen). This was all installed by a shop in California, though I don't have the paperwork. I bought it about eight years ago, took a few longer trips on it, commuted on it, but it's gone largely unused for the last two year. I'm getting rid of all the bikes I don't ride very often, and this one qualifies.

Bike is serviced and ready to ride (with the exception of needing a new rear tire). I wouldn't hesitate to start commuting on it again or take it on a tour. It's still one of the best sport/touring bikes ever made.

Always stored in a garage. The paint, while scuffed in a few places, is not faded and still looks great in person.

    Maintenance:

Fluids changed at regular intervals, other maintenance was done as required or recommended.

    Just refreshed all fluids, including:
    *brake
    *clutch
    *oil
    *coolant

    Repairs/Updates:
As with many of these bikes, the regulator/rectifier went bad, necessitating replacement. It was updated to a modern mosfet R/R from a modern bike. This was done with new connections.

The clutch slave cylinder, another common issue, has also been replaces with a billet aftermarket unit.

    Features:
    *Heated Grips
    *Throttlemeister throttle lock
    *Scottoiler drive chain auto-oiler
    *Bar Risers
*Tall windscreen (There's a chunk that was broken off, and repaired, kinda. Works fine, could look better)
*AF1 H-Pipe - removes catalytic converter and mufflers
*AF1 Airbox Lid Removal kit - opens up the restrictive airbox, sounds fantastic

    Negatives:
The bike has been dropped twice, neither of which could really be called a crash, but it did touch the ground, and there are marks on the bodywork that are damaged. The brake pedal is also slightly bent, but not enough for me to have cared to fix it.

I was looking at this myself but need to buy a mobile home or RV for our son (so he doesn't try to move back home)

When I was younger I was afraid I'd die riding. Now that I'm old and falling apart, I'm afraid I won't.
