2006 scarabeo 250 fuel mixture problem only getting 30 mpg

My scarabeo only gets about 30 mpg. I checked just about everything that could cause poor fuel mileage. I exhaust fumes smell very rich like I'm not burning the fuel. I bought the scooter used and it's always done this so I'm not sure how it's supposed to respond when you give it full throttle but it seems to bog down a bit.

I've attached a picture from the manual and wanted to know if the screw I need to adjust in #3.

Also what is the automatic starter cpl.? Could that be the problem?

    Thanks for any help.

3 is adjustment or mix screw 14 is not auto start.. but a/ By starter enriches mix on cold start.

Thanks Tom. I will double check the manual but I thought it listed 14 as automatic starter CPL.

If 14 enriches the fuel maybe it is faulty and is constantly on while I'm riding. Do you know if there is a way to test that part on the carburetor?

I guess I can disconnect it and see if I get better fuel mileage.

    Thanks again,

    Pete

This guy show you how it works. I will have to pull it off and test to see if it's working properly.

I have one of these on my BV250 and it makes tuning a breeze.

How did it make tuning a breeze?

Are you saying it was easy since you only have to adjust the fuel/air screw?

BTW, I just tested the automatic starter cpl/choke and it seems to be working because it expanded when 12 volts was applied to the connections.

I will now adjust the fuel/air screw.

Its easy because there is no guess work, it tells you when your A/F ratio is right. No more turning screws and swapping jets back and forth. Just tune in the A/F screw for idle then up jet or down jet based on what it tells you the mixture is. My BV250 was using a lot of gas before I discovered it was leaking out of the nipple on the gas tank.

What do you mean by "up jet or down jet"? I thought the only jet I would be adjusting would be the air/fuel jet.

When I gained access to the carburetor, I noticed that the air/fuel screw was turned all the way in.

The manual says the rpms should be 1600 +-100

I believe the carb is running leaner with the screw all the way in so I'm not sure if adjusting is going to help with my fuel issue.
I guess I can pull the carb, take it apart and put it in a parts washer. Maybe something is gunked up.

    Thanks,

    pete

    Pete,
May I suggest that you read this to learn about how a Carburetor works: https://www.battlescooter.com/cv-carburetor-jetting. Though they aren't from your scooter they are exactly the same carbs.

Thanks for the link. Good info. I don't think I want to put in new jets or modify my current jets but I am going to remove all the jets and clean them while I have the carb off the engine.
I attached some pics of my carb. There is a little rubber piece that is torn. I'm not sure if that's replaceable.

That's on the accelerator pump. Mine is torn too so I ordered new parts for mine from Dennis Kirk after searching. It said it fits all CVK carbs but I haven't had a chance to test it.

If I remember correctly it does pull from the bottom. Unlike the bee carb there is only one cable. Yes they are a 30mm CVK carb.

I removed all the jets and cleaned the carb but I'm still running rich.
Here a link to a video of I shot after cleaning. Not scientific but you can see the black soot on the paper towel after only a couple of seconds.

I guess I need to replace the jets.

Does anyone sell a rebuild kit that would include all the jets for the 2006 scarabeo 250?

    Thanks,

    pete
