Such a small eagle (goose) on such a big tank does look a little funny.

They should name it The Hummingbird.
    Bikes:
    2007.5 Tuono-Black, with 1102cc's of micah's badness!
2012 Griso-Silver and black, Agostini pipe, some carbon bits.
2006 Vespa GT200-bitubo suspension all around, Malossi big-bore, head and cam, Akrapovic pipe, all put together by Micah.

gone 2002 Caponord-Oyster gray (as faithful as a hound dog)
gone Futura-Red (on the AF1 showroom floor. Get some.)

The more I learn about people, the more I appreciate rocks.

For an "off roader", better an under paint decal of:

Like that. The new Guzzi eagle reminds me of the Spinal Tap Stonehenge.

It's no off-roader, look at the tires. The base tires are the Tourance Next, a 90/10 tire. The optional Anakee Adventures are an 80/20. There's no pretense of "off road" beyond dirt roads, fire/seasonal roads, and possibly some mild two-track.

I don't. I'm reserving judgement until I've ridden one but I'm deeply unimpressed by the mundane and pedestrian engine 'Evolution', (Its hardly a new design despite their protestations to the contrary.), the 'Poverty Pack' suspension and generally uninspiring styling. Early reports also talk about it being incredibly smooth which makes me think it will be anodyne and characterless but as I said I'll reserve judgement until I've ridden it.

I've just been speaking to a guy who pre ordered a V85 and sold it after just a few weeks of ownership. ' Gutless ' was his one word response to my query as to why he and the Guzzi had parted company.

I like Guzzis, I've owned 3 or 4 over the years, but mine have all been 1000cc plus capacity engines and gutless certainly wouldn't have been a word I'd use to describe them. You can draw your own conclusions.
40 odd powered two wheelers over 40 odd years. Currently in the garage are a 2016 Tuono V4 1100RR and a '79 Honda CB550F

Actual cubic capacity means little nowadays. Certainly small displacement, multi cylinder, DOHC, 4VPC designs can make prodigious power. The issue with the V85 is that it remains a 2VPC engine with overhead valves operated by pushrods. Much has been made of the fact that it has titanium inlet valves which allow for much more rapid acceleration via a more aggressive cam but at the same time at least some of that weight saving is offset by the heavier roller tappets employed in the motor. I still remain deeply cynical about the claimed power output and personally find little to like about the machine, at least on paper and in pictures.

I will ride one though, eventually, but it's not a high priority for me to try. I'm currently far more interested in the SWM Superduals.
