There isn't really any way to tell definitively what version or restriction status the ECU is in. Sadly, there isn't much the Gameboy will tell me about the ECU, such as installed map version, restriction status, ect. What it will tell me is a read out from some sensors, engine rpm, engine state, ignition advance, throttle position, coolant temp, engine hours, error codes, etc. I can sort of get an idea of if the map on the ECU is older or newer, but not version or restriction status. If the map on the ECU is older, when I plug it in the Gameboy will automatically flash it with the newer map. If the map on the ECU is newer, when I go to flash it, it will warn me the map I am flashing is older and ask if I want to proceed. I flash 2.8.0 to everything as that is technically the latest map, expect for 2004 and older North American models with the Morini engine, as they aren't supported by 2.8.0 (and I've never cared enough to look into adding support for them like I did with the 2005-2007 Morini), but are with 2.8.2. The two "newer" maps are 2.8.2 and 2.8.3.1/2.83.1 which are specifically for the North American market. 2.8.2 only supports 2001-2004 first gen North American Morini SR50 Di-Tech, 2005-2007 second gen Morini SR50 Di-Tech (which were only release in the US, Canada, Australia, and maybe few other countries I've forgot, most of the world got Piaggio engines starting in very late 2004), and all year Morini Scarabeo Di-Tech. 2.8.3.1/2.83.1 is the same, but adds support for Piaggio engines. 2.8.2 and 2.8.3.1/2.83.1 were released to fix the SLOP problem that was apparently more common in North America. 2.8.2 makes very slightly (negligible really, less than 0.1 HP) less power than 2.8.0, but still had some slop problems. 2.8.3.1/2.83.1 pretty much cured the SLOP problem, but made very noticeably less power.

I see you know a lot about these scooters and I was hoping to pick your brain. If you could help me that would be great. My email is <email address removed>. Thanks, hope to hear from you soon
