    Arrow exhaust pipe cracked!

I just noticed the splitter pipe for my Arrow exhaust has a big crack in it! Why would this happen? The bike has only done 12k miles. I'll need to get in touch with Arrow to see if they will replace it

How is the exhaust attached to the frame? My GPR Y-pipe is attached to the frame separately to the cans.

It isn't directly attached to the frame. It is clamped to the cat and each can has a spring connecting to the Y piece.

    Looks like fatigue to me.

If that section isn't supported it's been flexing over the 12k and cracked in the heat affected zone then spread.

    Re weld it?

    Sorry, had to.
You don't need to earn my respect.
    I give it freely.
Whether or not you keep it is entirely up to you.

Welds are often a point of failure if they are not done well - there's a lot of ways they can go wrong. If it's still in warranty, I would get Arrow to replace it. Re-welding is always possible, but that will need a fair bit of prep and cleanup.

Do you have the decat pipe as well? There is a small difference in the angle of the cans (relative to the rest of the bike) between the Dorso and the Shiver, if you have a Shiver midpipe it may have put more stress on the Y-pipe. Maybe.

Or maybe, as above, it's just the weight of the cat. My Akra's Y-pipe did well over 12k with the stock cat and shows no signs of any cracking that I could see (I've polished them twice).

EDIT: Arrow are a quality brand, my decat pipe is well made: good machining, clean bends, nice welds (well, not sure about the filler they use...). Maybe the material (stainless grade) isn't the best, but it's better than the OEM Aprilia pipes.

I reckon that's why it failed.
GPR is supposedly cheaper, but the Y-pipe is mounted to the frame, reducing stress.

Depends on the stainless 304 exhausts could be 316 it's not all on the weld so it could be heat cold fracture form water splashing on the hot exhaust ,we used to get it a lot in hot water systems running out side the building .

Nice. Is that before they welded up the braces on top and bottom like Akro for instance? Don't want that happening again I bet.

Looks like they did a good job.

I had the same thing happen to my Borla headers on the Subaru. I used my friend's welder to fix them, and never had a problem again.
