what should my next commuter be?

    tell me if this exists.

650-900cc with shaft drive, good ergos for 80 miles per day of bay area commute. 5+ gallon gas tank if possible. dependable. good mpg. i'd consider a belt drive too.

i understand that it'll probably be chain drive so fire away with thoughts and recommendations.

    thanks in advance.

I am gunna put it out there and say that mm will win two more titles with Honda to equal the hated ones record. Then jump ship to another bike. Iím gunna say Suzuki or Ducati. Yuall heard it here first.

It's not an obvious choice, but after much research for a similar commute I ended up getting an 899. It's a very comfortable bike. Has more power than you will ever need, is light, filters fantastic, is super fun to ride, and gets reasonable milage. Oh and you get to park at Ducati Island too.

True it has a tiny tank (which turns out to be a good thing), and a chain, but really these things aren't show stoppers. Major service interval is 15K miles. Probably the funnest four stroke I've ever owned (and I've had more than a few!).

BMW R12R or R12RS, more cc's than you wanted but only 125 hp, light, nimble, easy to ride, shaft drive, good gas mileage, factory panniers, good for commuting or day trips.

In general I've found it beneficial to keep the budget rather flexible when searching for a new bike. You wouldn't want to let the perfect bike slip through your fingers over a few dollars. :P

new or used up to around $12k us.

plus i'm thinking reliability needs to be there. i don't need anything amazing as i ride to work asleep before the sun is up and split lanes almost 40 miles in the pm. something i can treat like a 3rd or 4th wife and still loves me.
