    GuzziDiag step by step throttle and handle learning procedure for RSV4 and Tuono V4

    This is intended to be a simple guide for upgrading your V4 to a race ECU using GuzziDiag to perform the throttle and handle learning procedure, There is a great thread on the technical information posted by TOMIK located here.




    1- Download GuzziDiag from http://www.von-der-salierburg.de/download/GuzziDiag/, also download the FTDI driver.
    2- Go online and order the connection cables (
    VAG 409.1 OBD2 USB Car Diagnostics Interface Scanner FTDI FT232RL VCDS VW Audi)
    and (
    3 Pin to 16 Pin OBD2 Adapter Cable Connector for Fiat Alfa Romeo Lancia) you can find both cable on EBAY for $20.

    3- Remove the seat, disconnect the battery, remove the side panels and remove the bolts from the gas tank.

    4- Tilt the tank and support it with something to access the ECU, you don't have to completely remove the tank.

    5- Remove the ECU by snapping it out of it's base and disconnecting the harness plugs, no tools required.

    6- Go to http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scrip...dProduct=38289 and fill out the form.
    7- Pack your ECU and ship it with a copy of your invoice, it will fit nicely in a USPS small priority flat rate box.
    8- When your ECU comes back, re-install the unit and go ahead and re-install the gas tank and side panels - IMPORTANT: pull the slack out of your negative battery cable or you will have to take everything back apart.
    9- Locate and connect your cables to the bike connector located it the tail of the bike.

    10- Connect the battery clips to the battery.

    11- Connect the USB to your laptop and open GuzziDiag.
    12- Select Californaia1400 and make sure com 3 is listed, if not your laptop is not reading the cable, I had to go back and install the driver. It will say (com 3) in the com port box.

    13- Click file and connect.

    14- Switch ignition on and click OK.

    15- The data from you bike will load into GuzziDiag.

    16- Go to View and select ACTORS.

    17- From the drop down menu select HANDLE SELF LEARNING and click start.
    (this step takes a spit second)

    18- Turn off the ignition.
    19- You will have to restart GuzziDiag and go through steps 13-16 to get to the next step.
    20- Follow the steps 13 through 16 and select THROTTLE SELF LEARNING and start, switch off ignition.

    You are done, now start your bike. For APRC bikes you will have to calibrate your traction control via the dashboard.

    I haven't been able to find simple instructions for this process so I thought I would give it a shot, I hope this helps

    Thanks for the write-up, it was much needed!

    BTW, for anyone wanting to attempt this themselves, it's ridiculously easy, I promise.

    I will say that I am running the current version of Guzzidiag and when I start it up it it doesn't ask me to select the model (i.e. California 1400). Instead it asks me to select the ECU, in which case I select 7SM.

    It takes longer to read the instructions than it does to do the task, it is super easy. This is GuzziDiag v 0.47 the site says "last change 02/29/2016" it's the only version I could find.

    Check this out, see what it looks like when I try to select my motorcycle?

    It doesn't have California 1400 on the list, however, when I select 7SM (the ECU the RSV4 uses) it works just fine.

    Weird, huh?

    You got IAW Diag and not Guzzi Diag.
    Both come from the same site http://www.von-der-salierburg.de/download/GuzziDiag/

    Guzzi Diag is made for Guzzis, IAW is made for Magneti Marelli ECUs in general.

    There's guzzidiag and IAWdiag. Both gets the job done. IAWdiag is for non-guzzi motorcycles and it does not have references to Motoguzzi models.

    is reset autolearning parameters done after the first 2 and anything else needed to be known about it?

    Throttle self learn is for the throttle bodies on the motor.
    handle self learn is for the demand sensor.
    Both are required.

    JFI Ian, the bike does the throttle bodies self learning every time you switch the ignition on, providing you allow it to go through all the 'start up' stuff, in fact the manual says the bike MUST do this start up calibration once every 40 (cant remember exact number) ignition turn on's.

    I had this conversation with Technoresearch when I had their first 'experimental system' on my 2011. they said there is no need for throttle body cal as the ecu performs it every start up, I just couldn't convince them to include handle learning.

    One 'nice to have' thing on the Techno stuff is it also gives an explanation of what the 'PO' code is instead of just a number The 'Historic' fault below was my faulty throttle body, and the self test/cal after it was changed with 'Warning light off'
    Lambda fault is all you get when you leave it unplugged
