The cables I have came from OBD Innovations San Jose CA. They are good cables if you want them fast.

7SM also worked for me. California 1400 wasn't an available option

Are you using Guzzidiag or IWAdiag?

I downloaded the Guzzidiag V0.47 and selected 7SM. However, on my computer the program is labeled as IAW_V0.47. I attached a photo of what I clicked to download. (Windows version)

I downloaded both & GuzziDiag has California 1400 available. IAW does not.

GuzziDiag step by step throttle and handle learning procedure for RSV4 and Tuono V4

IAW is for Aprilia bikes only. Aprilia call the ECU 7SM. Guzzidiag is for more bikes from the Piaggio group and list the 7AM under the California 1400

Same ECU just named differently in the two programmes
    2009 R

Race ECU. Domino XM2, Shorty Akrapovic. Retro Fit APRC Qs. RCS 19 and RCS clutch perch
HEL lines throughout. GiaMoto Rearsets, Puig, Pipercross Air filter. SC1 for road and Superbike Slick SC1/SC2 track

I made this tutorial on Guzzidiag because it is the more well-known name of the program but you get the idea, you can use either one to get the same result.

I just completed this process on my RSV4 tonight.
I was having issues as well with not being able to connect it, at first.

If you are having the same issue, try this before sending your cables back.

Remove everything from the usb ports. Mouse dongle and all.
Open Device Manager and find the Ports (COM & LPT)
Click the drop down and then plug in your Purple cable.
It should show the COM # now, Mine was COM 6.

Now reference your COM# in the Guzzidag picklist and you should be able to connect.
I was referencing COM 3 since that's what this thread said to do before I learned what COM actually was.
My laptop has 3 Usb ports and I was telling it to look at the Mouse dongle....duh.

Turned the ignition on once again and boom connected!

Bike is running like a raped ape and spitting fire like a flame thrower on decel....Loving it!

Also, OP I think you forgot to mention in your steps to reconnect the Battery Cable. Other then that it's perfect.

Thanks for writing this, very helpful.

    Good luck

I did match the com but for some reason on the bottom of the screen it still says disconnected. Ordered a new cable and that still doesn't work I'll take it to the dealer. Hopefully don't have a bad ecu.

    Everything worked for me!

Ordered cables off Amazon, sent ECU to AF1 for updated APRC mapping with QC enabled, installed ECU today.
Guzzi fired right up and performed throttle learning with no issues.

Factory QC is buttery smooth compared to the Dynojet I have on my track bike!

    Thanks Ed!

Saved me a 6 hour round trip to the closest dealer. The same dealer that had to call you for help years ago in the middle of a map update.
