    Biaggi testing at Qatar

Max testing for 4 days at the Losail track prior to his wildcard appearance. I am wondering what something like this costs? Max states in the article that he is the only one on track, so not a cheap track day[s]. Other than Aprilia's love for Max, why would they spend this kind of coin unless they are looking to continue in WSBK in some form next year?

Maybe they just want Max and Aprilia to win at Qatar for the publicity and wrap it as a last farewell to Max's racing career and Aprilia in WSBK. It's not like they can get much out of Haslam and Torres.

Torres has outperformed Haslam most of the year.

He's aggressive and has courage. He's not consistent though, and that's where he's lost out.

I don't know how much use the circuit gets during non WSBk/GP times. Maybe the sheikhs threw it in as a bonus?

Torres is seeing a lot of the tracks for the first time too.

Really? Torres has only outpointed Haslam in 3 of the 12 rounds this year.

It was known that the rules change for this season would disadvantage Aprilia more than most, add to that the loss of the guiding hand of Gigi and the demotion of the team to factory supported rather than full factory why the surprise that they aren't dominating as in the recent past?

Its easy to blame the riders but there's more to it than that.

Max is supposedly a development rider for the factory, but whether the feedback he gives is entirely relevant to the other riders is another matter as unlike them he is provided with fresh engines and tailored gearing for the circuits he is racing at. You can bet he will have a significantly better bike for Qatar than Haslam or Torres, probably not got the outright speed to win against guys racing regularly but it will be nice to see him in the mix one more time.

Max is like the pantomime villain, Dustin Hoffman's Capt Hook if you will........you can't help but have a soft spot for him even if he is the 'baddy'!

Maybe the rich guys in Qatar are paying Aprilia/Biaggi to ride there for their enjoyment. Not sure the attendance numbers for the GP and WSBK now, but it was like 10k I think back in the early years. Those rich oil dudes love spending c ash because they can.

Didn't they foot the bill for the additional cost of the rain out in 2009 for the planes to wait a day so the equipment mentioned could be transported to Japan for the next round.

I think they treat motorcycle racing like a sweet sixteen party for themselves and don't hold back on expense.

    Biaggi testing at Qatar

I was in Qatar for the opening round. It was awesome having the paddock to myself. I guess I did have to share it with the teams.

Can't imagine how quiet the WSBK event is.

Just pleased that the championships have been settled before they go there so at least the guys had the opportunity to properly celebrate at Jerez/Magni Cours.......there's no sound reason for having the last race at Qatar other than somebody is making a lot of money out of it......

I am not a Max fan and I hope he does well for two reasons.

    1) bring glory to Aprilia
    2) show the world that you can still crush it in your 40's.

Is he just testing the SBK or are they wheeling out the GP prototype for a shakedown as well? I could see that justifying the expense.

    Biaggi testing at Qatar

This is all WSBK testing. We won't see the new RS-GP until Sepang testing. I was hoping to see it while at the Valencia testing. Oh well.

True. Still want a good result for Aprilia from any source at this point.
