Does the V7 stir your juices? How do they go?

As long as you forget they are a 750 or at least forget your expectations of what a 750 *Should* perform like and just think of them as a small motorbike the performance is charming.

Their biggest downside is their crappy suspension which is real bargain basement/poverty pack junk. Easily fixable but factor it into the cost of the purchase.

While they will do interstate the environment where they shine is small back roads as they are very light and flickable.

The basic machine has been around since 1978 when I was twenty one, my first Guzzi in 1980 was a V50-II and the frames would be virtually interchangeable and up until the arrival of the six speed gearbox a couple of years ago you could actually of slipped the new FI powerplant into the old frame with no modification at all! it's essentially a 1970's motorbike with 21'st century accoutrements!

Agree 100 % with Pete. Really can't compare this 750 to a Yamaha FZ-07 or other "modern" bike of similar displacement. The V7 looks retro and IS retro. Mine has an upgraded rear BiTurbo rear suspension, which since I've not ridden one with a stock I can't give a comparison personnaly. But is compliant and handles flicking around on the twisties without complaint. Upgrades to the front are on the table for 6k mile service.

This bike was the unicorn of my youth, Pete has a couple years on me but we're similar vintage. Now I have one, and it is reliable and has fuel injection. Riding this bike reminds me of the bikes of my youth and all their limitations, but it goes fine, and with a small fly screen you can take it down the highway a bit. For extended long distance cruising I'll take my Aprilia Caponord every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

For me this is a 2nd bike. It's great for motoring around the urban area and short jaunts to the nearby twisties. And man does it look cool!

    Tank Ring and Givi Bag

Like to have a wee bit of storage on the V7 so don't have to use a backpack all the time. Givi doesn't make a ring for it, but was able to source a custom one from a Guzzi specialist in the US. So now have a daintly 3L Givi bag. Big enough for pocket items, a change of skivvies and bottle of water. Per instructions from the ring vendor, had to delete the O-ring to make it work, but I suspect slightly longer (2-3 mm screws would work without having to leave the O-ring out. Yet to road test yet due to crappy weather here.

Not so new to me anymore, but took advantage of a California-esque day to put some quality miles on the Guzzi as I'm at the service interval on my Caponord. Click image for larger version.

Yep -it's the Grimes County Courthouse in Anderson, Texas. Population 250. The railroad went through Navasota but Anderson got to keep the county seat.

Yep, my wife did the same thing with her textile jacket some years ago on her '09 V7C. And only last year I burnt the leg of a pair of lightweight synthetic trekking trousers on the muffler of her current V7 Stone. It was a helluva job to clean up the mess too.

No, that is abject fear when the rider actually realises that the rims have greater grip than the tyres of the day.
