    Drilling out ignition lock

    I was quoted $500 to rekey my lock which I lost my key for, and no other locksmith in the area said they could do it, so I figure I will just order a whole new set of locks for $170 to replace the original 16 year old locks on it.

    Anything I should keep in mind when drilling? Is there a tutorial somewhere or diagram of what to remove to exchange the lock?

    -also additionally, what's the cheapest sync tool for throttle to make it smooth at idle?

    remove upper triple clamp, flip over, slot the tamper proof bolt with a dremel, turn it out with a screwdriver. They arent super tight.

    I use an old set of mercury sticks for balancing the TB's

    ^Just did the above method recently to get the lock out of the triple and it was quite easy.

    I didn't even need to cut a slot in mine when I removed it. Just a screwdriver pushed hard and turned.
    oh well nevermind

    So I don't need to drill into the lock at all? It will just come out if I get the bolt off? I haven't looked at it yet, going to order the new lock soon.

    What are the TBs?

    To echo what's been said, I've cut a slot into two bolts and undid both easily with a screwdriver as spencer and mrk-d said. easy...

    In my experience the bolt was tight enough that it required a Dremel. Perhaps you’ll get lucky and won’t need one but the only way to know is to give it a shot.

    TB = throttle body

    If you can accurately center punch on center, drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole and then a 5/16" or 8mm hole, the head will come off once you get to the shoulder and before you do any harm. Old air cooled VW Beetles used the same breakaway bolts on their ignition switches.
