    Tuono 2002 RSV-R Limited - Register

I thought it was about time we had a Tuono R-Limited register.

The Tuono Mille RSV-R Limited was launched in 2002 (following the successful teaser release of a street fighter Falco kit) as a limited edition run of Aprilia's new Streetfighter concept which essentially took the RSV Mille faired racer, removed the fairing and added higher bars for an upright riding position. The R-Limited retained the full power RSV engine and added a host of high specification componentry such as fully adjustable Ohlins forks and shock, Ohlins steering damper, bronze Oz lightweight rims, exposed carbon fibre bodywork, matt Diablo black paint to the fuel tank, exclusive "oro metalizzato opaco" frame colour, hand made kevlar panels, Ergal aluminum components, Stainless steel oil tank, crash mushrooms, exclusive seats and finally an Aprilia Racing Eprom and Titanium silencer. It served as the Halo model to the forthcoming Tuono Fighter and the launch edition of the entire Tuono lineage that followed and was virtually sold out on launch. According to the press, 200 examples would be made and the price was euro 18,000+

The original first series, was a production run of 105 bikes (information directly from Aprilia). This was later increased, culminating in a next wave, no doubt as a result of demand for the US and other export markets outside of Europe. US bikes had orange reflectors on the front mudguard.

If you own one, please post your plaque number, handle, designated country or market bike was manufactured for/Country where it now resides, and last three digits of your chassis number

    Example:
035-Nito, UK/UK, 002. If you know your bike was imported please put the domestic market it is from first in country, and then a slash with where it is now. It would appear that the chassis numbering restarts for each country but the plaque number continues where it left off (except possiby Australia, which would appear to follow on from the US chassis numbering?).

Hopefully we can try and get to the bottom of exactly how many and what went where. Any info or sightings of any numbers please also post up so we can add to the database. If the plaque number is in bold on the register below then the number is verified by the owner. Bold text elsewhere denotes spotted bikes.

I'll add to this post when I have more time and put up some more details of this model etc, but just to kick it off for now....!!!

Hi, my name is markus and I'm from germany and I bought my limited tuono in 11/2002

In my opinion is my tuono an european model. The headlamp was from the beginning for german streets permitted. I need no modification. Here are the last six digits from the chassis ......100003. And it's an Akrapovic (hexagonal) exhaust.
I changed some parts in the last eleven years. Last changes in 2011 after a little accident (for example the frontfairing, frame totally new painted, and so on).

You find some pics from nr. 051 here http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...ery-**/page129 and a few more. Search for Markuss in the members gallery :-)

    Hi Markuss.

Thank you for adding your information to the register. What exhaust are you running there?

Also, can you please confirm the last three digits of your chassis number for the database. I thought 51 was a UK bike, but if yours is a German market bike then that is new information for us and might mean that there were less UK bikes than we thought.

    Kind regards

    Markuss,

Thanks a lot for adding the additional info. If yours is chassis 3 and plaque 51, then it must be the third bike to the german market, which would mean german bikes start at plaque number 49. This is really relevant to me as this would mean only 15 of these bikes came to the UK

I'm going to guess that 15 also went to Germany, since we know 65 is French, so its likely 64 is probably French meaning 63 is the last German market bike. It's all starting to piece together, thanks to everyone who has posted their info, I'll edit the database when I'm next on my pc, ipad doesn't edit properly!

    Cheers

Look at the pics FTM, it's not an R, it's a red 2003, I don't know if the #166 just refers to the chassis number?

You are right Nito, I just thought the avatar was of a track bike he might have owned but the picture in the thread does show a red 2003.

    Hi Nito,
My Tuono RSV-R is numbered 123 on the top Yoke, last 3 digits on the chassis No. are 028.
I bought it from Motorcycle Centre Orrell Ltd in Wigan UK in June 2002 having pre-ordered it.
It resides in NW England near Preston, Lancs.Click image for larger version.

    Looks excellent Evilkneyeball.

I've updated the register. So this is interesting, thanks for confirming your last three digits. Aprilia confirmed to me by email that 30 bikes in total were destined for the UK market. I doubted them because from our research so far, it appeared it was 15 as the consecutive ltd edition numbers continued in other markets whereas the chassis numbers reset for each country and reflect the units that went to that country. So it looks like the first 105 bike wave happened, then the second wave topped up the markets. So it's likely that yours was a second wave to the UK, which would have been another 15 bikes to make up Aprilias figure of 30. Yours is the 28th to the UK suggesting the UK numbers for the second wave would run from 111-125, all we need is another second wave bike to confirm that and it'll fill in some more of the blanks.

    Thanks for that,

    Cheers

    Very interesting Nito,
I have seen another RSV-R bike in a dealers 3 years ago on the same plot as Motorcycle Centre, but I think it was waiting a service and I didn't look at the numbers.
I also saw one parked up in a neighbouring village supermarket when I was passing in the car.
Now I know of the existence of your register I will start trainspotting and jot down any numbers if I spot another one.
Have you ever had to try & get any kevlar or carbon parts? I had an embarrasing low side about 6 yeas ago and damaged the belly pan and radiator side fin, dealer ordered the parts but none ever came, so a year later the shop mended them with glass fibre and sprayed them matt black. Ideally I'd like to find some replacements.
    Regards, Mike
