Dislocated my thumb on mine today!!

Had my friend pull it back into place, but I wasn't able to ride anymore for the rest of the day. Sucks too since it was my first session in the morning and a low speed low-side.

I went for a quick rip in the nearest industrial park I could find. I love the look on peoples faces waiting at the bus stop when you tear by for the third or fourth time.

Have deviated from original plans to get carried away buying bling for my fairly standard 2008 SXV550. Found an already blinged one.

Bought the same thing (2008 SXV550) with all the bling already fitted, and very few hours on it. It's set up for racing, but I'm going to put it on back on the road. Bought all the road stuff from Alice Racing on eBay last week. Yes, I was the bastard that bought almost all of the road gear.

Bike will be packed up this week and hopefully start its 6,600km journey to my place next week.

The bike did ok with 5th place in the 2010 King of Bling. Yes, it will be entered in the 2013 King of Bling.

    Some of the details:
    Alpina wheels - 16.5” front & 5.5” rear
    Sach kitted forks
Ohlins rear with adjustable ride height
    STM slipper
    Arrow Ti exhaust
Complete Bro 10 Beringer front brake set up
    Iceparts triples - 2 degrees steeper & 11mm offset
    Ice-parts Quickshifter
    Shortened swingarm
    Scotts steering damper
    Renthal bars
    Tuneboy
    Original spare wheels

I’ve also got a set of Marchesini wheels sitting in a friend’s house in England that I’ll get sent to me soon. I’ll decide later whether to stick with the Marchies or Alpinas, and sell the ones that I don’t use.

I work weekends, and make rather good money on those nights. Taking a Saturday night off to go put this thing on a track will cost me a fortune in lost income, but that’s going to have to happen at least a few times this year.

The previous owner is heartbroken about selling it, but he just hasn't been getting any use out of it. He's put a lot into this bike. I suspect that I am going to end up very, very, very attached to it.

Within a couple of days of Julian posting, I was obsessing about that bike day and night. I stalked the hell out of him - read through all of his posts on here and SupermotoAus. Found his Photobucket account, went through the lot and saved all the SXV photos into a folder on my desktop.

I even tinkered with Google maps to see if it was viable to drive over to pick it up. The shortest distance I could get it down to was 4,700km each way. Ouch. I would have driven if it was in Adelaide (2,700km).

I was going to buy a complete Beringer front brake for my current bike sometime soon ($1,500). I want Ice-parts triple clamps, but couldn't justify the cost yet ($1,000).

Plus, Julian's bike has so few km... it's almost a brand new bike. It's almost like finding an SXV in a time capsule.

Not sure which wheels I'll use yet. I've got a set of 17" Marchesinis in England that I bought a month ago. Julian's bike has a beautiful set of Alpinas, but the 16.5" front will limit front tyre choice. Have already PMed Karl about a price for a 17" rim that I can lace to the hub.

Blingitis has started to fester in me. Sure, I spent a few dollars on a 12 litre tank and seat, and a new Silmoto dual outlet exhaust for my current bike. But I hadn't gotten really carried away yet. There's bugger all trade of secondhand SXV bling these days, so I would have had to pay new price for everything. Lots of $$$.

Then, Julian's bike came along. Bloody piece of art. Magnificent. I've been lusting after it since a few days after Julian posted the advert on SupermotoAus.

With my current SXV, once I've combined them both into the best SXV possible, I'll sell the current one in standard condition. It means tying up some money for a while, but the ultimate economics of it all make sense. A means to an end.

Basically, buying Juilan's SXV was a shortcut to getting a very well blinged SXV. It will be a tricky task to get it into the house, but it will very possibly spend the first few days here parked in my bedroom.

Australia is a fairly big place. A deal comes up on a very, very, very, very blinged SXV550 that is too good to ignore. I buy it, to replace my standard SXV550 that I was probably going to end up buying the same stuff for.

Problem is that the bike is on the opposite side of the country. The bike is in Mackay, Queensland and I’m in Perth, Western Australia. As in, if you tried to find the two most further away from each other points, then that’s pretty much what I’ve got.

Ah well. I tinkered with Google maps. To take a short cut across the country comes to around 4,800km. To go the scenic way via Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide gets it up to 6,000km. Slightly long drive to pick up a bike. I bought a car in Adelaide a year ago - flew there after working a 12 hour shift, met the guy at the airport and drove 2,758km back to Perth in about 34 hours. Not really falling over myself to do something similar, but twice as long.

The seller has now packed it up in a crate. Lots of impatient excitement here. Want the bloody bike here… now!

That bike is beyond pimptastic! Future pics of it doing the business at a track are all the gearhead porn any of us needs. Good luck with the ship, hope it gets there in one piece.

Went out to Grange Motor Circuit for the first time, due to some light 20-30mph winds we had the whole place to ourselves! Great time.

It must have been hard for JD to part with the SXV but you got a great deal, it's one of the cleanest racebikes I've ever seen and no disrespect to JD (as he would be the first to say it) but it wasn't exactly thrashed to an inch of it's life on the rare track outings it had! Great bike, great bloke, you couldn't get a better one.

DiscoJohn, I grew up a bit North of there, it's a beautiful (but fecking freezing) part of the country, I'd love to take an SXV for a blast around some of the moorland roads.

Smashed out 350km of country riding yesterday as a final test of my rebuilt engine...

One 15 minute run of full throttle, not backing off once proves it not going to pop in a hurry...

Hit and maintained 200kph for a few spots going down hill...

Having a temp guage on it now I am stunned at how cool it runs...

Bikes looking the nuts John! I've been to Aviemore many times, SXV must be a laugh around there!
