Well if you have no upgrades you should be fine with the stock carb, however if you do put on, for example, a performance exhaust, make sure you upjet the carb to about 92. If you don't your bike will run lean causing friction all over (between piston and bore especially)

Easy way to tell what carbs also i may add, on the Sha carb you DO NOT have a rubber manifold(into reed side NOT airbox) with the new PHBN 16 carbs it HAS a rubber manifold and the size of the external where the carb fits onto is about 35mm and the SHA carb is around 60mm! Ther do also say on the carb body just above the bowl on a little flat piece! Assuming every things standard that is, and USUALLY , SHA carbs 1999-2003 PHBN 2004/3-2005/6

sounds like you have the dellorto sha 1412 carb, no need for pics just have a look on the side of the carb and it will tell you

if your running it with a open/cone/k&n style filter then you NEED to upjet a fair bit to match the increase of air. if you run it with stock size jets and run a open filter its going to run really lean and cause damage to crank bearings, cylinder, piston internally

we cannot tell you the exact size jet to fit because its always different even if someone had the same set up as you because it also depends on climate and see level ect ect. however we can give you a good starting point if you give us full details of your set up (top end (cylinder) / airbox or filter / current jet size / carb / exhaust and so on)

stock jet size for the dellorto sha carb is 63

you need to upjet around 10% give or take a couple of sizes when derestricting it or fitting a race exhaust

if you have a decent carb you will also have mixture screw, needle clip settings ect

with a open/k&n/cone/pod style air filter then yes your on the right sort of lines there..

with the airbox fitted, stock derestricted then merely 65 - 72 would be on the right sort of lines.

that is the effect of a cone/pod/foam filter because they increase airflow so much so you need lots more fuel (no real performance gain with the RS50 though)

it may be worth you hanging on and buying a second hand airbox off ebay, easier to re-jet to a airbox and more reliable with the UKs weather
