    Question RSV4 Key programming?

Anyone tried to program keys for the RSV4? I somehow erased one of my keys in the computer so that when I would try to use that key it would ask for a code. I happen to try out the last 5 digits of my VIN and then the key worked fine. Until I turned the key off and then it would ask for the code each and every time. I went into the diagnostics under key programming to see if I could reprogram the old key and after entering the same last 5 of my VIN I was able to program up to 3 keys without needing the magical RED key. I found this interesting and wanted to know if this would work for anyone else? Maybe I stumbled upon a secret or I just got lucky with my VIN being the special code for my exact bike? Who knows, so let me know but please don't erase your own keys just to find out.

I think the "magical" red key is a Ducati thing, no such thing on the V4.

So how do the keys work exactly.

I bought a used RSV4 Factory, and one of the keys is asking for a code (asking to be programmed?).

The primary key just works as-is.

    Is this in the manual?

    Thanks!

When you first turn on the ign with the good key, do you see a message on the dash that says "remmember to insert user code" ?

The "normal" key I use just boots up and goes to the normal dash - ready to start up.

The "other" key does not bounce the RPM needle or anything, it just said "INSERT THE CODE" 0---

that means someone programmed a personal security code.....if it said what Amauri said, it would be way easier.

you will need that user code to make your new key work. If you dont know it, you could try guessing the easy ones, the VIN, 12345, 11111, 00000, etc. You must have that personal user code to make that new key work. If you dont know or cant guess the code, DO NOT LOSE that one good key, or you will be buying a new dash and a lockset.

Well that is very unfortunate.. guess I better start trying.. or get ahold of the previous owner... good luck to me..

-What if I get the code right? Then what happens; can I reset the code, or make it so I don't have to do it again?

yes, once you know the code, you can program the dash to accept the new key permanately. You can have up to 4 keys.

For the others out there.....if you still have both original keys, but have lost the code, the code can be recoverd, but you need the original 2 keys to recover.

So, had low side and roll over at the tank this weekend which sheared off the key fob. Insert code 0_ was displayed so had to cancel rest of weekend. Got home, used spare key and all good. Started dissembling damaged parts which included a mashed ignition ring. The coil isn't destroyed but has a couple of strands that are snapped. So after clean up and re inserting, the working key is now not working and the dash is requesting the code. Any ideas?

the antennae sounds damaged. It needs to read the RFID chip in the key head. Unfortunately the antennae is only sold with a new switch

KTM uses the magic orange key. If anyone but the dealer uses it your fucked and the ECU and the whole bike is locked up. If you have a KTM never use the orange key.
