From their site, "The Dial Type Wrench is the only wrench that is not affected by the hand-hold position on the wrench."

Very interesting ... never thought to consider that. Oops.

That is the first I have seen a fried stator like that in a 98-03 bike. I wonder if that was a stock stator or if it was a replacement that was not sized properly and had too small of a gap between the stator core and the magnets in the flywheel causing it to make more power than it was supposed to.

actually now that you mentioned it, the wires that come out from the stator are white, instead of yellow like it mentioned in the wiring diagram. So maybe it is a replacement.
So, I guess i need a new stator, is there other workable cheaper stator, or should I stick with OEM?

Buy a Rick's they cost $140. Aprilia wants over $800 for one. I have had a Rick's in my bike for almost 14,000 miles.

Here is a link to them on the AF1 site too

If you go with a Rick's you'll need to save the wiring for the flywheel position sensor from the old unit and the old FPS too. The Ricks unit only has the three wires for the stator. I cut two channels in the rubber grommet that goes through the stator cover for the FPS wires on mine. The AF1 page says the Ricks unit is only for 04-09 bikes but on Ricks web site they sell the same part number for 98-09 bikes.

Ok, I am ordering stuff that I need to put this thing back together. One thing I read in the manual that I need "silastic 732 rtv" for the cable guide, Do I really need it? or is there alternatives? that thing is hard to find!!

Are you talking about where the wires come out of the case? Yes you should use some sealant. I like the Permatex Ultra line of high temp sealants. You can get them at any auto parts store.

Oh ok, I just want to make sure I dont' need the exact "Silastic 732 RTV" described in the manual.
I guess I can just get the high temp, oil resistant sealants.

Oh, one more thing..... if I am just replacing the stator, do I have to lock the crank at TDC?

alright, I installed the new stator, and put everything back together...
I tried to start the bike, I hear the fuel pump, and then i push the start button, no start...
when I push the button, I can hear a whining noise coming from the bike.....
connected diag wire, and the dash shows a standard "1"
    help....

After you turn the key on the fuel pump will run for three seconds. After that, when you push the starter button the fuel pump will run as long as the button is pressed.

So, the whining noise you hear on pushing the start button, is it the fuel pump or the starter motor?

I think it is the fuel pump that makes the whining noise
will it because of the flywheel position sensor that causes this.
the reason is that the cable on the Rick's Stator is a little thicker than the original one, and I try my best to install it. as you know, the flywheel position sensor push down on a rubber which push down on the cable in the cover.
