How To Guide: RSV4R Oil Change

I changed the oil on my RSV4R this evening and took a couple of pictures in case people want to see how it was done.

To reset the spanner/wrench symbol on the dash: Enter the menu, go to diagnostics menu, code is 12412, choose "reset coupon". Gone.

Looks like these bikes need Dzus fasteners like a mofo!

    Nice write up!

I just changed mine on Thursday and recently clocked 657 miles.

I'm contacting the tech who did my recall to ask how to remove the "wrench" icon from the LCD. Did you figure it out yet?

Note: The drain bolt is a 10mm!

Just one caution note to add, don't forget the drain bolt crush washer.

Sometimes it stays on the bolt, sometimes it stays on the oil sump and sometimes it falls off in the oil drain pan once you remove the plug.

Once you've re-installed the drain bolt, it should sit flush with the oil sump.
If not, the washer fell out into your drain pan.

The wrench icon can be reset by entering the password in the diagnostic menu function, do a search and you'll find the password here somewhere.

    Great write up.

My little tip (from experience) is to be careful when you remove the drain plug. The oil shoots out with fair force, misses the pan you have carefully positioned under the bike, and goes all over the garage floor!! lol.

i would change the crush washer every time, i know it can be re-used a few times but its better to always change them (on cars also) plus they are cheap

    Guys,

What is the recommended installation procedure for the oil filter? I hand tightened it and then rotated it half turn with some filter pliers. Is that OK?

You have tu put some oil on the seal before to fit it.

In my case, I don't use plier, only the hand.
