    EFI light flashing... First diagnosis?

    Hello good people...

I've got a 2002 Caponord with 12,7XX miles on it and have just started to see a flashing EFI light. I have the AF1 rectifier and have had the fuel tank quick connect replaced... Where would you look first to try and diagnose this issue?

    Thanks for any feedback!!

Look in the area behind your battery on the left side of the bike and you should find 2 disconnected white bullet connectors. Connect them together and turn on the ignition and you may see a fault code displayed in the bikes dashboard LCD at the bottom. This would be your first clue. Fault codes are as follows:

    Tried bullet connectors-no error code?

With the ignition off, I connected the bullet connectors and turn the ignition.

The bike came on with no messages on the screen and the EFI light had stopped flashing.

I turned off the ignition, disconnected the connectors, turned it on again-EFI light flashing again, still no code...

Frustrated to not even get a code to get a start on the problem.

Does it flash while the engine is running? It will flash at rest with the engine kill switch off -- that is normal.

when the bullet connectors are connected the EFI light does not come on.

i had my bik in diagnostic mode for months and forgot to put it back. what going on a recent trip decided to get the clock back, the clock is lost when in diagnostic mode, this is where the code will be.if all is ok it displays a 1 or a -1 depending on the kill switch position.

whani i reconnected the bullet connectors i got a red efi light.....'f***kin great i exclaimed' then i remebered the kill switch was in the off position.

connect your bullet connectors and weight for a few minutes until the 1 appears in the position of the clock. then run the engine. the fault code will appear if it is current.

if you can get to a dealer get them to connect their axone to the bike to look through the fault buffer. if you know someone with a tuneboy use this for the same.

    Location of the diagnostic connectors.

This is where the diagnostic connectors are located, as demonstrated by Desmo. sEE ATTACHED PIC.

    The bird rules!!!

That's so awesome... I ran the diagnostic and was MORE patient this time and it has turned up error code 36-Coil 4... Next step... I see lots of recommendations for a variety of coils. Any solid experience with this particular one? ALSO... Is Coil 4 "Coil 1 Rear Cylinder" or "Coil 2 Rear Cylinder"?

rear outside plug, you can confirm this with a timing light...and also swap leads and coils around.I did,and yup, just no.4 coil.Replaced it with a sagem item from AF1(six days to my P.O. on the other side of the planet) or hunt down some renault ones & mod the connectors.

There is a table on a thread giving the wire colours for each plug. Do a search, you'll find it

    Irregular Power surge/loss

    Hi,

Just got a 2002 Caponord. I experienced power surge/loss while trying out the bike over an hour ride.
Send the bike to the distributor to check and nothing was detected.
The mechanic suspected some coil issue.
I also noticed that the EFI light sometimes come out solid (no blinking). I turn off the switch and the EFI light is gone.
I also noticed that the 2 bullet connects are connected already. Should it always be connected?

    Appreciate your help.

    No they shouldn't.

It is possible to have a coil issue without the ECU thinking so. I have had the same symptoms for a few weeks now, except that I know I have a failing coil because tuneboy can show the error codes in the ECU memory (the EFI flashed for a little bit for another reason, namely overvoltage, which damaged the coil).

It is most probably your problem. Changing them one by one and testing the bike each time seems your only solution. Look at the primary wires at the same time to make sure nothing is amiss.

It might also be a bad earth connection though.
