    Modified OE Manifold

Hi all. Just bought this from MHP and wanted to know what your thoughts where on it. The discription that came with it was as follows.

"Here we have an MHP modified OE manifold for an Aprilia RSVR 99 - 02 single sided systems. The enhancements enable the system to improve performance by 15 bhp across the midrange and by upto 3 bhp at the top end, but the benefit is the spread of power across the whole rev range. This manifold was used in the MRO Aprilia Challenge so this enabeled a single silencer to match the capacity of a twin Akropovic system."

I have not yet fitted it to the bike so I have no dyno figures but I do know that this guy MHP does know his stuff. His workmanship on the manifold looks to be very good.

I think those figures are a bit optimistic but yes that mod does work.
I've had done to my track bike a couple of years ago by Renegade and it does help smooth out the midrange.

The longer link between the two headers use the same shape of the Arrow headers. Befbeaver made the same mod years ago and also get some gains.

And if I am not wrong, the small one from the rear header was present on the first versions of Akra's 2-1 headers.

Is that part of a bagpipe?

    Well, I'll be damned.

There are at least two threads on this 'mystery mod' over in the Tuono forum.
    Here's the active one:
    http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...d.php?t=141552

In that thread, a single balance pipe is reported to help the low/mid kick; wonder what that short secondary does? sheesh.

It appears you scored, gbv2, I would be very interested in following this mod. I have a spare collector and have been twiddling my thumbs before I do any cut/welds.

Looks the cat's meow, ya lucky bastard! HA!

If it works, should it also works with ME headers? (pictures are from a RP model header)

ME type is the first type Mille (1998 - 2000 in europe)
RP is the second type (2001-2003)(updates bodywork, bigger valves, 4 pad Brembo brake calliper...)

    Both have different collectors.

i have this mod done to my 03 mille R

only noticed the other day while cleaning the exhaust system

not sure about the power increase as the bike is far from standard and still not been on another mille without the mod

the collector its self is alot bigger than my standard one (did wonder why i got a spare collector piece)

If anyone is interested I am just about to put my modded link pipe, Aprilia Akra race can and chip on that auction site. If someone wants the stuff PM me with a sensible offer (the can is mint). I hope I don't regret putting the 2-2 Akra's on (and I hope the wife doen't find out how much they cost), the sound of the single can is awesome but not loud enough to get you knocked off. Been pulled twice and the plod were not remotely interested in it. Even passed its MOT yesterday with it on. Never had it on the dyno with that set up but it definitely smoothed the power out.

Be sure to let us know what you think and also your opinion on the sound of both set ups. This comparison has often kept me awake at night thinking about it. I have 'nearly' bought the 2-2's a dozen times

As far as my own progress is going it is not! I haven't had any time at all these last few months to even look at the bike. To busy earning mulla so I can take the 'summer' months off

Well I've put the 2-2's on and I'm er welmed not over or under. The single Akra sounded better the 2-2 is a little quieter. I threw the bike together today so I could go for a blast tonight so its far from set up in fact its so far from set up I wondered whether it was going to spit its dummy and melt something. Its lost its bark. There seems to be more midrange but its hard to tell cos its only just running with flat spots all over. I'll put my Gabro(used the Haga chip that came with the pipes) chip in tomorrow and sync the bodies and try it again. It won't be completely right until I plug the PC111 back in and get it mapped. I am getting that new bike feeling! I want a factory( give you a tenner for that old scrapper of yours Arai/H) or sorry to say this a new Blade, do Honda do one with a V Twin and high bars. Sometimes I get pissed off with the 600's dicking me on the 130+ sweepers, they haven't got a 130mph gale trying to rip the arms off so they can concentrate on the bend.
