    sprockets/gearing

i have a 1989 af1 50 with the minerelli am3 engine(3gears).my fornt sprocket is 12 teeth and my rear 39.in top gear i can reach 12000rpm so i want to change the gearing to give me more top end,am i correct in thinking that my front sprocket is different to a six speed and any ideas where i can get front/rear sprockets.thanks.

Hi your font sprocket should be the same as a six speed am6 engine, you can get sprockets etc from http://www.opvoeren.nl/shop/uk/onder...p?Merk=Aprilia

What kinds of speeds you getting out of your 3 speed as i have an af1 with 3 speed rv3 engine so it's a bit different to yours.

i never go over 9000rpm in top(3rd)but at that its doing 80kph(50mph)but im only just over half throttle on the flat,it still pulls like a train right up to 12000 but ive not done that often and not looked at the speedo,im no liteweight either (16st)how does that compare to yours.

Right, stock is 12T at the front, 47T at the back.

Adding teeth to the front increases top end and loses acceleration, Removing teeth increases acceleration and decreases top end.

HOWEVER adding a tooth to the front does 3 TIMES more than what you would do to the rear, so for example if you put one tooth more on the front, it would be the same as taking 3 off the rear. The bonus of changing the front sprocket is that you dont have to get a new chain, whereas if you change the rear you will have to get a new chain.

And thats pretty much it lol.

    You only need 2 tools:
    WD-40 and Duct tape.
If it doesnt move and it should, use WD-40
If it moves and it shouldnt, use Duct tape.

upto you mate, whether you wanna accelerate fast or have top end speed really. i would say try out a CHEAP 13t front sprocket, and see how it feels. If its nice then fit a more expensive 13t one so it gives better life with your drivetrain.
