From reading the Benelli owner's forum, there are 3 things that need fixing - the clutch, remapping the ECU and something called the 'z25'.

I _think_ the z25 has to do with the size of a bolt or shaft within the engine - when the engine gets hot, the thing expands too much and binds with whatever is rotating around it.

There is a reasonably active forum here: http://www.benelliforum.com/index.php

I recently read where aprilia sourced the Falco's frame from Benelli. Can anyone confirm?

z25( alternator drive shaft from the back of the clutch) and 2007 onwards clutch basket

You could go for the updated speedo, change the cylinder block core plugs, move the air box drain so it doesn't drain onto the centre coil stick, double up the battery leads to aid with starting....... The list goes on........

According to this article RSVR frames and scooter frames were made by Benelli too.

Stood unused for years when new - corroded core plugs leaked - easy fix using cheaper, better quality, more easily available Ducati parts!

Clutch drag, just about sorted now, cable clutch is being swapped for hydraulic this winter.

One or two little niggles left, fuel consumption, oil weeps, idle speed. From total despair six months ago this bike is now a fast, reliable, brilliant handling, fantastic sounding bike. It took a track day in its stride and the owner loves it, to the point of leaving his MV Agusta unused.

These bikes were the bargain of the century, I should have snapped one up myself, 20/20 hindsight again.

The strangest thing is that the cooling fans start freewheeling by themselves at 85 mph and everyone who rides behind it gets mesmerised when this happens, causing a few near misses.
Now that's a reason NOT to buy, at least for the street.
That is, unless you have your will all up to date!!

Go find a 70s Benelli 650 Toronado Twin. If it runs, buy it. Mine never let me down!

Smooth as silk. "Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or fascist dictaatorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. H. Goring
