    Radial calipers on a earlier Mille???

    Hi Guys,

    Will the radial callipers from a 2003 R fit the Ohlins forks of an early Mille?

    I know that the bottom of the forks is different but what will I need? Is there a way to fit those calipers???

    Regards

    re radial calipers

    Try www.qbcarbon.com/products...raking.htm

    They sell K-tech radial brakes and mounting kit for ohlins forks.

    Not that easy

    It is not possible to fit them directly because the mounts are quite radically different. At a minimum you would nee to change the fork caps - but the 3 forks use the race-style external compression adjuster compared to the internal ones of the older forks. I'm not 100% sure that the process can be a simple swap of the caps, because of this. I'm betting that you can't because the mechanisms would be different. Only way you can tell is to find an experienced high-end suspension guy that has had both sets apart and can tell you definitely (or email Ohlins to ask).

    Derek you are a genius...

    Yoy are right about the expensive bit, however there are two products available:

    <img src="http://www.ema-usa.com/brakes/images/pvmforkbottom_caliper_320.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

    This costs $ 1495.95 and I think that it is tooooooooo expensive...

    But there is a cheaper version (and less trick...),

    <img src="http://www.ema-usa.com/brakes/images/PVM_ohlins_radial_adaptor_r1.JPG" style="border:0;"/>

    This costs $ 395.95!!!

    Now I only need to find a cheap place for radial callipers too...

    Wheel change as well

    Keep in mind, if you wanted to swap out the 2003 Ohlins with Radial calipers, you will need the 2003 OZ rims as well. They are 5 mm (2.5mm each side) wider at the hub where the rotors mount up then the older OZ or Brembo rims. You maybe able to get away with some spacers behind the rotors, but I do not think this has been tried.

    Mounting Centers

    Watch the mounting centers on the radial calipers. The Brembo Street verion as used on the Aprilia uses a 100mm mount center. The Race Radials use a 108mm mounting center.

    Ohlins conversion kit

    Supposedly Ohlins is making a conversion kit to allow mounting the radial calipers on the '01-'02 forks. It isn't available yet, but it's supposed to be soon because so many people have been asking this same question.

    Re: Ohlins conversion kit

    Like I need radial Calipers!!!!!!!!

    How many miles on your new gold rims?????? I have about 3,000 on mine :rollin: :rollin: :rollin:

    Plus, if you read closely, my guess is if they are making a conversion kit for the 02 Ohlins, you will need the 02 and older rims, machine away!!!!!

    conversion kit

    I don't know the details of the Ohlins conversion kit yet, i.e. "does Rustie need to machine his new blinging gold rims?"

    My guy at Scuderia talks to Ohlins directly and they told him that there was a kit on the way. I don't know what wheels and offset will be needed, but I'll keep you posted.

    Re: conversion kit

    I would machine my rims again regardless of calipers. If I ever did chose to go to Radials (as in 03 spec) I would just add the 2.5mm back behind the rotors with some spacers. Not a big deal. If I decide to buy the conversion kit, my rims are already set up for the 02 spec. That way, I could use them on any bike in the arsenol (if I ended up buying an 03 Mille R to go with the Tuono R ). Or perhaps that nice looking tuono Racing I saw today (but Gold would look stupid on that!!!!!!).
