I noticed today that although the SXV/RXV comes with the turn signals and even the goofy looking license plate bracket - with license plate light, it does not include the actual backing plate required to bolt on a license plate.

Because I have an RSV 1000 Factory and the license plate bracket (and backing plate) were one of the first things I removed, I learned today that the unused backing plate from the Factory bolts right on and looks -well - "factory." I guess that's because it is.

NICE...
Good find.

My plate looks all retarded. But it's sideways so harder to see. :burnout:

It's not much to look at, but you can see that the factory "Factory" plate backing plate fits perfect. It's what the factory would have offered if the bike were technically US plate-able.

OK, now I am confused (again). At first I heard the 450/550 were not street legal in the USA (yet) and then, based on posts on the forum, I assumed they were and I was just misinformed. Was I just not careful about checking the country of origin of the posts about using these bikes on the road? Can you legally street them in the USA?

Not really, but depending on how you go abouts it and where you live it might be possible. I know a lot of people have plated them, but they probably live in a remote enough area that nobody cares.

I think that the deal was that aprilia didn't get the bikes to pass emissions early enough to be able to get the proper paper work for them to be plated in the states. That's why most dealers will not do it for you.

That being said, I bought mine in Connecticut, but registered it in New York, where I live. I took the bill of sale and Certificate of Origin to the DMV and was able to get it registered. There's nothing in the Certificate of Origin indicating that the bike is not for street use. The woman seemed to have a hard time getting the computer to accept whatever she was typing and I started to get a bit nervous. But after about 20 minutes she handed me the plate and registration. She never questioned anything, I think she just thought she was inputing the wrong info. So, now I'm all street legal.

I live in Las Vegas and have no problem getting it plated. And we are a big city. Just not full of liberal tree huggin douche bags. They are all in Cali.

Anyone know where I could find one of those LP brackets? I checked AF1 Racing and could only find LP relocation kits. Now that I have an actual LP (as opposed to a cardboard temp plate), I'd like to ditch the zip-ties.

Hey, now! It's those Southern Nevada Libs that are messing up that state! Those power-hungry Las Vegans are even trying to steal the state capitol from Carson City.

Big union labor runs the hotels and casinos and the mining (a huge part of Nevada's economy). And, you know how those Union thugs vote, right?

Clark County, which takes in the bulk of Nevada's population and includes Las Vegas, was the only county that went to John Kerry in 2004. And, all but five counties are trending toward Democrat... probably due to all the Californians moving there! Ha! The laugh's on you, pal! Kalifornia is taking over! Prepare to turn in your guns and dirt bikes.

I'm waiting to see those Kalifornia plates on your spanky new RXV550! http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/icon10.gif

I'm sure it's an orderable part for an RSV1000/Factory '04 and newer. My guess is 99% of those owners have there stock one laying in the garage.

Post a request in the General section.
