can anyone tell me what is the recomended service intervals fot these bikes. I herd that they were very short? Also for road trail use what would be the estimated life of an engine between rebuilds? I wont ask what a rebuild would cost.

Road going machine - Every 60 hrs

Racing macine - Every 30 hrs (unless they blow up before that)!!

That is service intervals, not engine life intervals.

The service life of the engine is very good in comparison to the rest of the competition.

Yes I agree Dave. I wonder how long an engine will live for say the 4.5 motard, not raced but ridden around town weekdays, and country runs (hills) on weekends. Say 30 000klm / year. Properly serviced. It just could be my wife`s/2nd bike!!

I'm fairly confident they will last OK, rings will probably be the limiting factor. Maybe 15,000km ?????? Dont really know at this stage.
I do know that the valve clearances on our RXV450 are living up to that of the RSV/990 engines. 1 tight shim (still within spec though) after a bunch a journo use (and me) is a good indication so far for valve life.

Here's the maintenance intervals, copied from Aprilia's documentation.
