Has anyone heard of any reliable HP and Torque figures for the 550? I haven't found them listed anywhere. Thanks.

I've heard of 70 being the HP number being tossed around fro the 5.5 . No clue on torque .

Hi All,

I have two SXV550 said to be "Race units", on order. They say "Delivery" July/August. Will these units produce the 70+rwhp, when shipped or do they need to be derestricted "exhauast/throttle" and/or "programed/remapped" to achive this.

Got to run !!! my debt's calling.

I hope this forum can be of help. I am starting a project that is totally opposite of what would be considered normal. I race Micro Sprints which are powered by motorcycle engines. I am attaching a photo below. The majority of the nation allows 619cc engines with the N.E. US and a few of the larger races allowing 637cc, most classes run on methanol. Here are a few specifics of our type of racing:
750 lb. car w/ driver
Tracks range from 1/10th to 1/5th mile in length
Straightaways 220-250ft. in length
Cars are mainly using 600cc R6s, CBRs and GSXs with a few Kaws
I realize the power would not be near what the inline 4's put out but my thinking is with certain mods done the 550 would be very competive. I would have to bore the cylinders, etc. The torque of the V-Twin should really help the car through and coming out of the corner giving it a advantage perhaps about 2/3 of the straightaway. I am finding it very hard to find out much about the 5.5 Twins. This is not a project that would be done for this season but for next year. What does everyone think of this idea?

If they do not enforce the minumim weight limit, then the 5.5 would be a distinct advantage. My cousins raced the 600 rotax with the 600 I4's and spanked them, it so much lighter (they even used a 250 chassis). If you are held to equal weight, I would think that the reliability of the I4 would make it the clear choice.

Weight limit is strictly enforced. The straights on our tracks are only 220-250 in length so am thinking the 550 modified, etc. might, I emphasize MIGHT be competitive.

The 550 engine would be struggling for sure I would think. There isnt alot of crankcase room left in them either so mods such as bigger pistons etc. would be marginal if at all.

It doesnt sound like you are hindered by rules regarding mods to the engine so the 600's will always have the edge I would think.
It would sound wicked though.

Some input would be sweet ???

Yes, I would say it will need to be derestricted. They are not producing a race version, perhaps it's just a not registerable model your getting???

Hi All,

I had my SXV450 dyno'ed at the weekend by NDM motorcylces in North Dublin. THis place has a great reputation and they are very 'on the ball'.

Fully derestricted, 95 octane fuel.
===============================================
From idle up through 5 gears it produced a peak of 54.5hp (at rear wheel).

From 2nd gears roll-out and then flat through gears to 5th, she produced 56.4hp (rear wheel).

Impressive power for stock, matching, if not slightly better than a tuned CRF450 that results where compared to.

However, claimed is 60hp at rear wheel (stock) so I need to speak to the dealer as to where my other 4 hp is gone.

Torque curve is excellent. Never dips throught the gear range. Very smooth.

56.4Hp@ 10,241rpm / 31ft-ibs @8020rpm

54.5Hp@ 10111rpm / 31ft-ibs @7416rpm

Jpeg picture too big to post (270K).

I have heard that if you drill each side of the air box (above the filter) that this will help.

Is this the case or will this cause turbulence in the airbox???

If holes are in the side will the 'RAM AIR' effect of the intakes be lost by the air blowing out of the side????????
