These pictures were sent to me from a guy in Europe that restored his Aprilia Climber Trials bike to perfection....it looks super sharp. It makes my own 1993 Climber look like a POS.

Heh, i've never really seen the Aprilia trails bikes! Its funny to see one, I'm used to scooters and sportbikes. What size engine do the climbers have? Small 2-stroke, i assume.

That little thing looks like it could climb a telephone pole :)

peace,
sam

my Climber has a 280cc Rotax single 2-stroke...tuned for big-time TORQUE.....it probably doesnt rev over 4K RPM.....I can start off from a dead stop in the first 3 gears...it barely even sounds like a 2-smoke.....sounds more like a 4-stroke.

do a search on it, but Aprilia won the World Trials Championship one year....late eighties/ early nineties

I'm looking at a '92 climber, looks ok but wont tick over , the throtle response is slow and the plug is wet. Is it a solvable problem?

Hi guys, sorry to did such an old thread up, but are these Aprilia Climbers very quick/capable offroad?

I won a '91 280cc version on Ebay a few weeks back, but we were really dissappointed when we got there because it had obviously been thrashed to an inch of it's life. The guy also said he had tried kicking it over a few minutes before we got there, and the kick-start had fallen off! So when we arrived, he had got all his tools out and one look at the kickstart showed that all the teeth had been shaved off, along with the kickstart/gear spindle. We never ended up taking it home...

Anyway. I have just stumbled accross a 1995 250cc version in a local newspaper for UKú850, and am going to go and see it in a few days. What should I look out for on these bikes? I'll be running it at a disused quarry with a friend who has a 1997 Honda CR80 bigwheel (pretty fast), so will it compare power-wise (obiously not as nippy but I dont want to be always lagging behind).

Hope you can help...

If you are talking about Motorcrossing the bike the CR80 will kill you on your climber. They are suited for trials use and that is about all. A 1995 model is a rare bird here in the USA.

Yeh, I didnt think a climber would compare to a 'crosser.

I'm going to go and see this bike on Tuesday so I'll see if i like when I get there.

Just out of interest, as people road-register these trials bikes, what kind of speeds can they get up to? I know they are geared pretty low, so what would a climber max out at approximately? 30/40/50mph?

A '95 climber is very rare here in the UK too. It might be a problem getting replacement parts. :(

113km's on a 2002 Montesa (HRC Engine) :D (but that was on its speedo so prolly wrong...)

Your climber looks great, I recently bought a 280 climber that had been restored then damaged while being stored in a warehouse. It has the same green and white tank, and green rear fender. The person I bought it from thinks that it is a 1992 but I cannot find anything stamped on it that would verify the year it was made. Do you know if their is a manufacturers date on the climber?
