so i bought some paint from duplicolor that is supposed to simulate an anodized look for bare metal pieces. after my recent get-off, my blue anodized bar end weight/sliders are now out of commission. since i had the original weights, which were painted black, i decided to finally give this product a shot.

i have blue oz wheels, which i am trying to get close to in shade. it's not exact, but it's fairly close

i stripped the paint from the old weights and sanded down. i went from 220 grit -> 300 -> 400 -> 600. i'm not going crazy with this because it's only an accent piece and nobody looks THAT closely at bar-ends anyway.

three coats of the spray later and here are the results. it's not too bad for cheap cast steel.

not bad. i'm sure if someone was willing to go all out and polish an aluminum piece, this paint would make a nice approximation of anodizing. you can still see the grain of the metal beneath. pretty nice. it's actually a bit deeper and darker than these images. closer to oz blue than it looks here.

i'm going to give it one more coat on the bottom and then wetsand and buff it out to get rid of the orange peel. many of you can check them out on the next aprilia ride.

hmm, i can't figure out why i can't put the images inline in this forum. it worked in the mille forum.

in any case, i'm thinking of doing the radiator shrouds next, but i'm not sure if it would be too much blue.
