View Full Version : 01 Mille Customized!!!

Hey folks! I'd like to show off my Mille, Let me know what you think! The paint is a "marbelized" effect done by Rocky's, a local body shop that does tons of custom work, even the Hot Wheels show car! After the paint the carbon fiber started getting added, rear hugger, chain guard, rear taillight assembly housing, clear taillights with LED, front and rear signal integrators, then the CF look tape on the underbelly to cover the orange/red stock plastic. I'll tear it all back down this winter and get that painted. I've added the EVO airbox expander, and of course the EVO Titanium can and EPROM. The final touch was 2 small bars of neon, one under the rear in front of the shock and one in between the front forks. OH Yeah, the Sargent seat and plate relocator! Anyhow, tell me what ya think, good or bad! It seems people either love it or hate it....I, of course love it!

Pics don't work, man....

06-23-2003, 09:37 PM
ummm, no to the neon lights!

the bike is not my taste but you have done a helluva job with her.

06-24-2003, 01:23 AM
Where did I read something about a gallon of gas and a match?

06-24-2003, 06:05 AM
A second gallon of fuel's on me! :x

Man, you should seriously think about RIDING her more and spending a lot less time... well doing THAT to her...

06-24-2003, 06:23 AM
I know I'm going to take hell from you guys for this, but there is nothing on earth wronge with him making his mille look different then yours! I admit that putting neon lights on a bike seems a bit rough rider esque. But noone can deny that it look way cool (which is why rough riders do it)! I personaly am ashamed of being an aprilia owner when you guys also are owners of milles. Because, it is people like you that are lowering Italian motorcycle owners to the level of squids and rough riders. I don't care what you guys say but apriliaepyon, your bike looks very cool, and the neon lights give it an awesome touch please don't take them off!

2pist and RVZoo, you should never tell someone with the same make bike as you something like that. Do you think yourselves better then others because they put money into their bikes to make it look really good? Or is it that your jealous? Or is it because you are just pissed from soething that happened at work? Because their is no reason to attack somone like that for any reason.

I know I have just opened up a huge can of worms but I don't care!

P.S. My only thing left to say is that you need a high rise carbon fiber pipe.

06-24-2003, 07:10 AM
Victor, why are you flipping out? The guy asked for opinions! If you don't like the answers, that's life.

I don't care for the look of the bike. So what?

06-24-2003, 07:11 AM
the carbon fiber look tape had got to go. leave it stock color or get a real carbon fiber bellypan from www.qbcarbon.com. There is nothing worse than "carbon look", and you probably spent enough on the tape to buy the real deal. You wouldn't put "neon look" lights on your bike, why the tape (unless you're covering up some damage...)

Ok, this is a carefully drafted response. I did ask for comments, good or bad, love it or hate it, that is fine...I really didn't expect to get the suggestions to burn it. When I bought the Mille I did so because it was different, and I have always had a flare for the original. Then, this last WINTER (for the comment on "riding her instead of dong that to her") here in MICHIGAN (hard to ride in snow and ice), I put her in my living room and started to pull her apart. I realized that I was taking a chance doing the paint job that she has, but again, it is DIFFERENT. I am not one for lots of decals, race replica's or the like. I am also not a "rough rider". Once I had her back together and doing the finishing stuff (CF, signals, etc) it became GLARINGLY obvious that the under side of her being the Aprilia red/orange was not going to work. This was a major oversight on my part, and since it was now getting to be late April I decided that instead of tearing her back down to have it painted, or replace it with a real CF pan I would do the quick and easy solution for the summer so I wouldn't miss any ride time waiting for the paint shop or the parts to be delivered. That is where the Carbon Fiber look tape came into play. I had some left so I played around with the passenger pegs and dash on a rained out Saturday. Now, for the neon. That was an "on a whim" deal. I had seen a bike on the E Way up near Detroit and liked the effect. It adds a nice glow on the rear CF hugger. Besides, ANY extra light that gets someone to notice that I am on the road with them is an safety bonus in my book. NOW, I have never been one to conform, I like to stick out in a crowd. If I wanted to conform I'd be riding a Gixxer or another squid. I have a couple of decals on my helmet, one reads "The more you disapprove, the more fun it is for me" and the other is something to the like of "What's scary is that you are all the same, not that I am different". As for Victor, thanks for having my back, and I have been looking at dual high mount CF pipes, and rims for this Winters project. I'll keep commuting/cruising/touring on her, and loving every mile and minute. Take care, I'll be sure to stay away from you guys if you are holding any gas cans and Zippos!

Ride safe......Tim

apriliaepyon......I agree with the concensus regarding the neons, which is to lose them. Also, as bitchin as real CF bodywork is, some of us just can't afford it. To each their own, though. It's way cool that you didn't take some of those comments personally. It shows your maturity.

06-24-2003, 01:49 PM
Thanks Mhensel.....

By the way, I tracked down where the gas and match comment originated, and am a bit steamed that my bike, much less any Aprilia or Italian bike was put in the same category as the POS that the original reference was made to. 2Pist, have you found a Mille yet for the $8500 you want to spend? I hope so because I'd really hate to be getting dogged out like I was by someone that isn't an owner yet. I'll keep checking in to see if SOMEONE out there thinks she looks good! Keep the shiny side up folks!!!!! I'm goin' RIDIN'!

Apriliaepyon, the ugly duckling!;)

I can't say that I like it very much ... but that's just my opinion. On the other hand, It's definitely unique. Aprilias, by themselves, are head turners. A custom paintjob and other mods is bound to get you even more attention.

I say if you're happy with your bike and dig how it looks then who cares what I or anyone else thinks? YOU are the one riding it, putting gas into it and paying the insurance on it ... ultimately, you're opinion is the only one that matters.

i don't really like the way it looks. but the craftsmanship looks very good. it's your bike man, if you like it, good for you. doesn't matter what others think because they're not riding it.

06-25-2003, 08:03 AM
Hey apriliaepyon, from the tone of your original post I thought the mood was cheerful. Never meant to offend you. I apologize. I was obviously not really suggesting you should burn your bike. It was just a bad joke.
I love bikes and I deeply empathize with the people that feels the same. I feel bad when any bike is damaged and even more when a biker does.
I'll assume you were joking too when you said those things about being ashamed, etc.
Lets just keep it cool. As someone else said: peace.

06-25-2003, 08:25 AM
Hey, It's all good.....hell, I have as good a sense a humor as anyone. I am pretty light hearted, and like I said, it's my bike, I love it, and that is really all that matters to me. I thought it seemed pretty light hearted when I heeded the warning and said I'd stear clear of ya all if I saw ya with a gas can and a Zippo! I guess that is what emoticons are for! It's all real simple, we all ride, we ride the same "type" bikes, and that is all that matters. I'm not one to dwell on things, especially this stuff. I also am notorious for doing stuff like this, then a year or two later switchin it up again. That doesn't mean it won't be something more "conventional" then what is on there now, but it may be a little more in the spirit of you "purist":p Well, back to work, ride safe and keep the shiny side up!!!

Looks great mate!
Any chance of a picture at night so we can see these neon lights?

06-25-2003, 03:31 PM
Dude , I like it, and its different. Enjoy the thing and never mind who doesn't like it. hell some people think the Falco is ugly,,,, er,,, I guess its like eating lima beans.

06-26-2003, 12:13 AM
Got to love that carbon fibre ass end and the sergeant seat looks the goods to,hard to tell with the paint job . how many times do you have to explain to people what type of bike it is, cause I dont spy any decals except on the tank maybe??
Other than the paint job I like it , glad to see youre cool about postive/negative comments apriliaepyon, maybe Vic could take a leaf

06-26-2003, 01:49 AM
the paint job! man, you must be one careful rider or choose your roads very wisely! 'cause i'ld hate to have rocks flying my way and chipin' that expensive paint   ! oh hang on, wouldn't that qualify you as a poser? ;)

anyway it's your bike, you do whatever you please. i'm just a sucka for matt black :)

06-26-2003, 07:45 AM
It was originally Matte black....and that was different until Honda brought their neked bike out with it, and Ducati had the 750 SS Dark (I'm not sure if they made an '03 of that or not). That's when I decided to go with the custom....anyhow. She gets miles on her, real regular. Any chips are hard to see because of the pattern, and I really am not going to have a "trophy" bike that doesn't get ridden. She gets commuted, cruised, and toured. No posin here.....except hopefully by some hotties on it!

The ugly duckling!

06-26-2003, 10:49 AM
I'll use the "it's different" approach but I like it, makes it stand out from the rest. Guarantee if the makers of the Matrix reloaded would've seen that bike they henver would've used that 748.

06-27-2003, 01:20 PM
I like your bike. I like that it is different. I myself have entertained the idea of Dremyling out small channels in the fairing and installing EL wire for a totally unique Falco, but we'll see. I do agree though, CF high pipes would be sweet.

Not my cup of tea. But it does look god though.

06-30-2003, 09:05 PM
hmm.. probably the picture didn't serve any justice. it'ld probably look really good in the flesh. well enjoy the ride an avoid those rocks/chips!

07-03-2003, 02:54 PM
That is a very cooool bike! Like with any paint of that sort, it would look better in real life! I want one........... i wonder if anyone would swap my rs50 for an rsv?????? :D
