Hi Pegasus,

What a beautiful pictures from Norway! Nice landscape and of course a nice bike!
I agree about the R1200 GS: good bike but much too expensive (16000 euro) and the air-cooled boxer engine still burns a lot of oil when driven at high rpm's in a mountain area. I wonder why the German engineers can't beat that problem: develop a liquid cooled boxer.
I wish you many happy miles on the Capo.

Here is my Capo last taken week-end on the Murray River, near Mildura, Victoria, Australia. The bike is a 2001 model, with factory panniers & tank bag, BMW hand guards, Scot Oiler, and the suspension has been lowered 1"

Dave wich knobbies are you using? Do you use an innertube or mouse inside?

Looks great fun.

I've just started preperations for our trip through Turkey next year so i'm looking for off road tires experiences with the Capo

capodave
07-04-2007, 01:11 AM
They are Continental TKC80's. So far they have been great off-road and pretty good on-road.
I have about 1000 miles on so far....looks like mileage will be more than some of the more disma reports have been.
We are heading back through Wyoming and Montana again this weekend on pavement and dirt, so I'll have more of a report on how they hold up.

I'dbe interested in seeing your pack list for you trip...you know a guy never knows enough about what to take or leave at home.

capodave
07-04-2007, 01:13 AM
Oh, BTW, they are tubeless. I don't know what a 'mouse' is for a tire.

jang
07-04-2007, 02:02 AM
I don't know what a 'mouse' is for a tire.
My guess : some kind of foam to prevent a flat tyre (tire). In French : mousse.

Thanks yang, that's correct.

My packing list is always pretty short because we always stay in hotels or other accomodations. For the rest

short list (i'll update it later)

Ducktape (don't leave home without it)
Tie raps (several types incl metal ones)
First aid kit
Tools (OEM and some extra)
fluids like oil brakefluid etc
Tyre patch kit (and stripped down 12v pump also verry handy when switching on / off road)
maps (have had to many gps failures)
and the rest is filled up with clothing.

This year we managed to get everything into the gobi's without having to use vacuum bags. Wich work great by the way.

Here is a good link I use to design a personalized trip list before each different trip. These lists are good but don't replace good old experience. Maybe this will help in your trip to Turkey.

This is a picture of my 2001 Capo at the head of Tanat Valley near Llangynog mid Wales. This road takes you to Bala then on to Porthmadog. I believe these are some of the best biking roads in Wales. If you can, give it a try but watch out for the sheep.

Did you go down? IF so, no apparent problems, huh?

BTW, tell me about your front fender...pls. I think you had something posted in here somewhere but I would be interested in how it is attached and also, how does it function so far as keeping water spray/mud from roads off the bike.

Nice looking bike...it's good to see someone else using the Capo for something other than asphalt.:bump:

Unfortunatly it's almost impossible to ride off road in the Netherlands and the surrounding countries. And when you come somewehere where it is allowed. Its way to wet, no rocky surface al clay and mud. No fun two up on a 250 kilo bike.

The passenger seat is stock. The seat is made by Russell Cycle Products. Also known as:
http://www.day-long.com/

It cost me about $650.- and was worth every penny. I've almost fallen asleep while riding its so comfy. With a Capo you would have to send them the seat pan for them to do the work so it would be a winter project.

Hi Henk,
Welcome to the best source of Caponord info on the web. Some great guys here with some really cool solutions to almost anything you could want to know.
Glad you liked the Paros pics .. great island. I purchased some reasonably cool saddlebags (Cargo Endurance) for the trip and it worked out quite well. They expand big enough to get my XXL clothing all packed up safe and sound.

Lets see a pic of your capo for everyone else to enjoy.

I do not have the luggage racks on my bike. These are soft panniers (saddlebags that fit over the back of the bike. I placed the straps under the passenger seat so as not to make my better half uncomfortable. click on LINK (http://www.sounddistribution.co.uk/products.asp?recnumber=192)
for more info on the panniers that I got.
If I did have the mounting racks on my bike, here in Greece I can find cheap Chinese made hard luggage for 50 Euros each, but its the mounting racks that are expensive. Since I needed a cheap way of carrying our luggage for our trip, with 110 Euros I bought these bags.

They worked well ..... lots of space and no problems what so ever.
A decent investment.

Here's my 2002 UK spec Capo on my recent trip to Spain. It's inland from Gandia on the Med coast, looking down from Barx towards Simat and the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Valdigna, now being restored in among the orange groves. Well worth a visit if you're in the area, as is the little Mezquita in the fields just outside town, which speaks volumes about Spanish history.

only just found out how to reduce the imaging so here goes.
pics taken on summer trip through france, pyrinees and spain.
Took the picture of the valley with 1000 metre drop sat on the bike, note what is supposed to be the barrier to stop you going over, then looked in front and took one of the sign, bit hairy!

I'm in Cosham. I've not lived round these parts long enough to need a service, but most bikers in this area go to a guy named Taz. I can find and pm details if you need them.

Hi Chrisonord,
i live in Katowice city. This is the capital of the Silesian region at the south of the Poland (80km from the Cracov).

Answering to your questions about the best places for the nightlife i think that you can enjoy very well in Cracov, Warsaw, probably in Gdansk,Gdynia,Sopot - these are the cities at the seaside.

Maybe we can meet in the futer for a little

Handles really really well really well it came with macadams which I've never been a fan of but they were ok on the Ceebee.I changed them at 4k for a set of pilot road 2's which are awesome wet or dry.
It's a very plush taught ride adjustable suspension both ends and very comfy, fast, smooth, brakes are off the blade it's got abs,2 very handy storage compartments in the faring and incredible underseat storage, build and finish is well it's a Honda init.
Gear box is sweet good as any Suzuki I've ridden only 5 speed which was strange at first but there's so much torque it's all you need.
Controls are light precise a real pleasure to use.
Weather protection is ok but a skidmarx or powerbronze DD screen makes a lot of difference.
I ride with some quick sports bike riders they've all commented on it's ability to keep up with them 140mph and it's all over though.Pushing a bit mpg is down to 38-40I keep accurate records of all my mpg over the last 5k it's averaged 44.6
If you ride in all weathers as do I it's a bitch to keep the downpipes and front of the engine clean a fender extender helps, mine see's a bucket and soapy water after every ride.
The bike feels a little bland with the standard can which is why I changed it for the Campbell twin sidewinder the baffles are removable, there's another 6BHP without any other mods lol.
Go get a demo ride you'll be impressed.

Just picked up a Caponord. I have been looking for an Enduro for somtime, and this bike choose me. I was looking at the GS and the V-Strom, but this thing is so awesome, I just had to have it. I am new to the Aprilia bike's and will be seeking much adivice here as time goes on. Just wanted to say hello and intro myself and the bike. I am 34, live in Seattle, WA. and love to ride no matter the weather.

Hi Chris

Those noby tires are "Metzler" and they're crab for tarmac. The first pair where gone after 3000 km Tarmac and 2000 km offroad - 5000 km in total. I unfortunately could only get Metzler again in Chile and the rear tire lasted about 5000 km again, the front a little longer.

Oh and by the way I almost crashed in Colombia on wet tarmac because the front tire skited. Now I mounted street tires.

Keep ridin' in th free world!
Mike

I have arrived in Antigua, Guatemala. Its una bonita ciudad!
I also found out whats up with the front tire. I dont hope your mechanic took it of, because someone forgot a put a big spacer/washer back in place, which means that the front wheel is lose in one side. Im trying to find the part here in Antigua. No luck until now...

Maybe someone in the forum knows what kind of quick fix you could do for that!! :bond:

Mikkel, Joses office is in Boulevard Los Proceres zon 10, I assume you are going via taxi so any Taxi driver should know a place called Plaza Cemaco or a shopping center called "Los Proceres". The BMW dealer is at the other side of Plaza Cemaco and 1.5 blocks away of Los Proceres. Joses cel is 55382436 and his work phone number is 23868000, the address is Bolulevard Los Proceres 4-45 zona 10. The name of the dealer is Bavaria Motors. The zone where it is located is zone 10.
You could also try calling Carlos Olyslager (52019185), he can help on making the part that you need. Carlos shop is in zone 9, dont have the exact addres but you could call him and arrange to meet there. He has all the experience and contacts to have the part done.
If there is anything I can help on just let me know (52010375). If no luck let me know so we can figure something out.
If you need a part as a sample we can use mine.
Let me know where are you staying.
Keep in touch.

Hi Mikkel, Im glad you resolved the problem.
How long are you planning on staying here on Guatemala?
Tomorrow and saturday are popular days for driving around, unfortunately Im not driving tomorrow but on saturday could be a nice opportunity to drive somewhere close to the city. Most of the ciclers gather in a gas station here in Guatemala city and arrange a breakfast somewhere around an hour away of city and most of the times end up in Antigua (cafe where we met).
If you are interested in the drive let me know so we can arrange place to meet.
Let me know when the bike is fixed.

Hey Alfonso

It turned out to be the barerings that where all worn out on the front tire, so hopefully tomorrow they will have them replaced and then I'll head to Mexico right away. I have to be in L.A. by 1 of May to meet some friend of mine coming over from Denmark so I'm a bit of in a hurry, but thanks for the invite could have been fun to ride with you guys!

Take care and thanks a lot for the help. Much appreciated!

Hi Alfonso

Thanks again. I'm now in Acapulco, Mexico with a serious problem. My alu chassis broke in two spots which hold the rear of the bike to the front. I'm trying to get it welded to day, but its pretty bad. Also I have to be L.A. by th 27. of april so time is ticking... I plan to tkae the ferrie to Baja and go straight up to L.A. So still about 3000 km to L.A. And from there another 10/20.000 km... ;-)

All the best

Hello Pegasus. The panniers and back box are Aprilia(givi). The tank bag is also Aprilia. It has a look on the front that attaches to a hook on the front the tank.
I was not able to find the bag in the Aprilia accessories section (although it was there before). The bag works very well-it has a clear section on top for a map, it pops up to larger capacity, it has extra pocket - and it doubles as a backpack.

Best regards,
Alex

Wanted to share a neat couple of pics with everyone. Hells Canyon is the deepest canyon in North America and just a short 150 miles from where I live. The pics here are about as far as you can go north unless you are a mountain goat. It was about 70 degrees on Sunday and a little hazy from farmers in eastern Oregon burning their ditches. Ended up being about a 325 mile day.

My favorite picture.

Hoping this pic of my little Italian lady gets through the system. Hit the dirt road and thought I'd get a shot of her before she got dirty, and also to let down the tyres to a decent dirt type pressure. Turned out she wouldn't start because of a fault with the sidestand safety switch. Bypassed it and now she's as good as gold.

G'day Ozzifutura,
Front tyre about 22psi and rear about 25. Stops it moving about so freely on loose stuff, and irons out the corrubloodygations a bit. Any softer and you risk denting a rim on rocks. I intend to change to a front Continental shortly as I have had a couple of "moments" on sandy stuff on the Dargo High Plains Rd. Not sure how the mix of knobby front and Tourance rear will go but I might post if anyone is interested.
To bypass the sidestand switch which had a broken cover from a previous encounter with mother earth(thanks Dave) you just short out the one which disables the motor. As the motor wouldn't start, no lights, dash etc, you just short two of the three wires(at the solder on the switch) to see which gives ignition lights with a screwdriver, and then join those two wires. By still leaving the three wires connected to the switch, the dash warning switch still works, but the sidestand will not cut out the motor.
And yes Dave, loving the bike when I can get out and about. Time is the enemy!!

Here is my stock Caponord - my first Aprilia and adventurer as well. Use it to commute 100+ miles/day through treacherous Atlanta, Georgia traffic. Don't see many Aprilia enthusiasts around here... Anyways, it makes my commute fun and interesting, even in oppressive heat, humidity and bumpers. Just got all the fluids changed and some recall work done, and after three long weeks without it, it rides like a bullet train now. LOVE IT!

Safe traveling all!

Hey all - thanks very much for the welcome!!

Aportilla, I sure did get it at WOW - it had some birthdays there so I picked it up back in Feb. for a steal before the prices rose for the summer. Got it the weekend of the big bike show - went straight from the show to WOW and picked it out.

Just picked it up after three weeks in the shop for an oil change - changed all fluids, filters, and recall work, and now it runs FANTASTIC!! Also running about 40 degrees cooler than before (important in the Georgia heat).

Where do you ride? Haven't seen any Capos 'round these parts.

Safe riding to all!!

Here's a different angle.

CaponeNord,

Small world. I had my eye on that capo and I actually went in to buy it after you :) I know your bike is in AWESOME shape - great deal.

I was lucky enough to find another one, a bit later in Savannah. Here it is: http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6748&page=81

I live in Marietta, and I usually ride around Marietta. Sometimes when time allows, Ill do a trip up to the mountains or Nashville or something...

It IS a small world! Aportilla, and all the folks who ride the Matte Black Capos - I think that is a fantastic finish; love the two-tone seat, too. Does it scratch easy? I'm pretty particular about keeping the finish nice, but my red finish scratches like wet paint. The side bags were pristine when I picked up the bike, but after some weeks of commuter driving through ATL, they have rock chips all over them. They're like massive christmas tree ornaments hanging two feet off the sides of the bike! Will probably need a re-spray before the year's up...

pugsley, it might be because the red Capos have lower fuel economy

I though because of the finish on mine, the bag and al the paint would chip - but as t turns out, the paint is pretty tough. I have riden it on many roads. It has 27k miles on it and the paint is great!
